Aptly the future in Sg is food but traditional fares are dying out.

Singaporean will need to choose between a "rich country" or a "country for its people".. You can't choose both at once, if singapore want to be a rich country it needs more people to continue or grow the economy. And YES i know because of the cost of living, the youth are not making babys fast enough, thats why the government need to bring in FT.
If the singaporean voice choose to be a rich country, than we need to coporeate with the FT and work together. If singaporean choose to make country for its own people, your need to prepare to lose to under developing country like malaysia and indonesia. If we lose our ground to be respected by our neighbours, we lose the power to talk openly during general meeting of the country.

Hi Clive, I agree, the hawker food industry in Singapore is dying. Apparently, most young Singapore generation do not know how to cook and most of them are quite highly educated. They preferred to work for people and get paid a fixs monthly salary, yearly bonuses and employer's monthly CPF contributions to their CPF. To be in a food business is not easy because most of the time you will be busy preparing food for tomorrow while the customers sleep at night. The future for hawker centres in Singapore looks gloomy and if the government lower the monthly rental for hawker stalls, it will not help them to encourage young Singaporeans to go into food business in hawker centres either. Unless, they allow Malaysians to open up food businesses in Singapore to carry on the traditional foods in hawker centres.

Its not about becoming a rich and expensive country but rather a country where people can live without depending on foreign labours too much. For FTs to work in Singapore, yes, but must have restriction and limitation job market. I don't mind them working in all those jobs that are shun by Singaporeans to take up. There is a disadvantage of being a rich and expensive country in the world. The tourists will not spend long holidays in Singapore and not many foreign investors will invest Singapore, unlike in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand; many tourists go for long holidays in their country and many foreign investments in their country.

The government succeeded in making Singapore a first class country but they fail miserably to secure for Singaporeans to have a first class salary like in most first class countries in the world. Singapore will never achieved having first class salary because for employers to pay a mandatory monthly mininum salary of $1500 for Singaporeans, they can't do it and they can't afford it. Inflation will continue to rise while Singaporeans are working like slaves, for a migre monthly wage.

It is no pride if cooking traditional fares, that is the main cause. Besides Sg is now a playground for the rich and they eat in fanciful restaurants with foreign sounding menu. It is dying more on demoralisation than anything else.

Actually majority of the young people prefer air con places than food centres.

Yeah when they still have money after pay day but once they don't have enough money, they have no choice but to eat at food centres or coffeeshop.
