That's why I always insist on learning all the dialects (and not one only -> "hokkien") because whatever missing in one dialect may still be preserved in the other.

Too many inference in languages make it hard to know which is the origin sometimes.

Clivebenss's meaning of Hokkien Ir Zi is different from your mother's meaning of Hokkien Ir Zi but happen to be the same meaning as my Teochew Ir Zi.
What do you think now?

The Tang Wa old women meaning of Ir Zi may coincide with Clivebenss meaning of Ir Zi, just that they did not gave you the definite answer. Your mom's Ir Zi happen to coincide with my Teochew usage of Ir Zi, that's interesting.

IE is ok, no problem. Except when it comes to speed and if want to open more tabs, it falls behind Firefox, Chrome. Not sure abt Safari and Opera.
I share some 2-syllable Teochew words that I think which are almost certainly not used at all by the general Teochew populace in Singapore already, usually people hear them used but don't use them.

拉誧 (la ph'u) - exaggerate
弄悷 (lang lih) - shrewd
å™ é¤ª (tak nng) - wasteful
扱目(tsah mak) - vigilant
蹰呔(th'u th'ai) - wanting to be pampered
張樣(tĩɔN ĩɔN) - wanting to be pampered
