A woman from China threatened to set herself on fire outside the Istana yesterday afternoon.
According to a Shin Min Daily report, the woman, known only as Madam Zhang, was unable to get a refund of her daughter's school fees from a private school.
In an act of desperation and wanting to ask help from officials, she stood outside the Istana, threw a can of lighter fluid on her head and waved a lighter about, threatening to set herself ablaze.
The guards outside the Istana immediately called the police who arrested and brought Zhang to Tanglin Police Station for questioning. The 43-year-old is currently out on bail.
I hope she's ok now.

nuisance...she must have heard that all problems will be solved by complaining directly to the HOS (head of state) or MPs...
Actually, the more I come across the PRC, the more uncomfortable I am with them.
Came across one bus driver f a Singapore Chinese old man who spoke to him in Mandarin laced with English.
I was WTF with these ppl.......
we have PRC blood in us...
thats why there are also many queueing up every week outside the temple of RC to have their problems resolved and answered...can feel the incense burning profusely as scheduled weekly...

Eh, the guards at the Istana have no arresting powers?
Have to call police to arrest the troublemaker?

No leh, I thought there are policemen at the gates together with the ceremonial guards.
The policemen should have arresting powers.
The barbarian nature is not far from the surface in such people. Once they siao liao they don't care.
Some innocent bystander or NSF Istana guard could have gotten hurt. I only wish all "fortunate sons" did their duty in such units.
The only good thing about such high profile cases: they draw attention to the problem.
