SINGAPORE: A man held on remand who was granted bail for a day to get married, is now on the run from the authorities after he gave his girlfriend the slip Monday evening.
A warrant of arrest has been issued against 28-year-old Irfan Ahmed Khan Iqbal Ahmed Khan who is accused of two drug-related charges and one count of weapon possession.
Irfan was granted the one-day bail of S$100,000 in the High Court, last Friday.
That is because he claimed that he had to go to the Registry of Muslim Marriages on Tuesday morning with his girlfriend.
But after abandoning her, he also failed to turn up for his trial in a district court Tuesday.
The court heard that Irfan, who was remanded at Changi Prison, left the facility with his elder brother at around 2 pm on Monday.
Irfan met his girlfriend later that afternoon to buy some clothes for the wedding.
The pair later went to a mosque in Yishun at around 7 pm and Irfan entered the building alone while she waited outside.
When he did not come out by 8 pm, the girlfriend phoned Irfan's elder brother who arrived about 15 minutes later.
He searched the mosque but Irfan was nowhere to be found.
The warrant review will be held on September 6.

Hahahahah, another joke after the escape of Mas Selamat Kastari. Is the Ministry of Home Affairs sleeping? Hen cock the new minister for home affairs is sleeping?
Maybe he didn't want to get married.
Maybe.
Misleading title.
Jumping bail and physically breaking out of prison are two entirely seperate entities.
So is it now the education minister's fault because you fail your comprehension skills?

On a side note, the court will allow people one day off from prison to register their marriage?
Just need to post a bond and you can go ROM?
The article states that the fellow was held on remand. And a bail was posted, which means he isnt charged in court for which ever offence he is held for yet.
Which most probably means he isnt serving a jail term in the prison. You dont get to post bond when serving a jail term. At the most the prison guards will escort you to an important function for example your NOK's funeral wake and back to prison you go.
