FAR FROM being disadvantaged, Singaporeans have benefitted from good jobs created by the Government's policy of allowing in a 'controlled' number of foreign workers, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Thursday.
The policy has also attracted foreign investments to Singapore, said Mr Lee, speaking at the official opening of IMFlash's US$3 billion high tech electronics plant, one of the biggest electronics investments here.
The Woodlands plant, a joint-venture between technology giants Intel and Micron, currently employs 1,200 staff.
IMFlash's managing director Chen Kok Sing said the plant, the only wafer fab in Singapore to produce the memory chips used in many popular electronic items like smartphones and tablet computers, will have 1,500 staff by next year.
In his speech, Mr Lee noted that six in 10 of the employees are 'Singaporeans and permanent residents'. Singapore residents also take up two-thirds of the managerial and professional positions, he added.
'Without the foreign workers, we would not have attracted this US$3 billion investment, and Intel and Micron would have built its wafer fab elsewhere. But by allowing in a controlled number of foreign workers, far from disadvantaging Singaporean workers, we have created more good jobs for Singaporeans,' said Mr Lee.
The Government's foreign worker policy could emerge as a hot-button issue this election as some believe that it has hurt residents' job prospects and depressed wages.
Fark you, You fcuking bastard!!! STOP GROUPING CITIZENS AND PR TOGETHER, GIVE US THE NO. SEPARATELY instead of grouping them together,(We have yet to know about the no. of Citizen working at the Casinos)... We know that you give out PR like toilet paper and also Citizenship too, So that this new immigrants will vote for you in the coming elections, That is why you keep on updating the Voters list.
when are they gonna stop propagating these myths? haha really amuses me. Josephine Teo mentioned this on the CNA forum, now her boss mentions the same.
People who work on the ground know it's really a different story. When you've got a cheapo chinaman or filipino coming to take the jobs of singaporeans for cheaper pay, we know it's not creating jobs for us. Look around at the many unemployed PMETs and they can vouch on that.
Yes it lowers overall costs and keep companies alive, that can be argued but to what extent? There are also many companies out there exploiting this, making gross profits I bet.
wait! what talkin him? sounds more like alien to me
is this guy human?
Here we go again , fact twisting , with all due respect Mr. PM , no
Singaporean has any issues with foreign workers, holding work permits,
these poor laborers come here for a specific time and then go back to
their country as they are not eligible to apply for permanent residency
or citizenship in Singapore. Singaporeans have problem with employment
Pass holders a.k.a. foreign talent who are competing directly for PMET
jobs with local Singaporeans to the point that in 2009 7/10 jobs went to
employment Pass holders a.k.a. foreign talent. There are no taxes or
quota for employing these EP holders when an employer sees a local
Singaporeans to hire he has to pay salary +16% CPF contribution for that
local Singaporean per month whereas if he hires a foreigner there is no
monthly tax or levy for the employer to pay this puts the local
Singaporean PMET job seeker at a disadvantage because even if both local
and foreigners are offered the same salary(which is never the case)the
local Singaporean is still 16% more expensive. This is a failure on the
lack of PAP government for not implementing already in existing rules
and further tweaking rules to regulate the flow of ET holder foreigners
a.k.a. foreign talent. till early 2000 a quota of three Singaporean
versus one foreigner was strictly enforced which kept the number of EP
holders in check. After signing free trade agreement with India and
China the PAP government opened 314 categories of PMET jobs with India
and China where their citizens can come on three months employment
seeking visa and upon successfully getting a job employment cost was
guaranteed irrespective of 3 to 1 quota in a recent FTA meeting with
India Singapore was asked to open up 200+ more PMET categories in
service sector such as Teachers etc (http://articles.economictimes.... .
All
everybody is asking is to make PMT job sectors an even and level
playing field for everyone by imposing a 16% tax on individual EP
holders per month paid by the employers to a fund in CPF similar to
employer CPF contribution , that fund can later be used for the
educating of local PMET or similar purposes.at least this makes a foreigner and a Singaporean equally viable in the eyes of an employer without favoring either
This
is the call which Mr. Prime Minister you and your colleagues carefully
avoid to answer and always reverted back to foreign workers which are
not the issue to begin with please stop avoiding the actual question is
this scenario has already cost 40+ age group Singaporeans heavy job
losses to these foreign talents.and if this trend continues that time is
not far off when even fresh university graduates will not be able to
find jobs because they won't be viable/affordable in the eyes of
employers.
there are some scenario where government has to be pro Citizen and not pro business.
We need to keep repeating until every SIngaporean gets brainwashed.
they create more table wiping jobs.
They create so much jobs for Singaporeans that's why the 2 Casinos employs 100% Singaporeans.

I am not joking.
You are absolutely right.
As you increase the number of people living in the country, they will need to visit food courts, kopitiams, restaurants to have their meals.
This in turn creates more jobs for table wipers.
You don't need a rocket science phd doctorate to increase GDP.

Ooops!
I thought the Casinos was meant to create jobs for Singaporeans?
At least that is what the Straits Times reported before Casinos started operations, didn't follow the news thereafter, I trust the PAP to do what is right.
So how many percent of jobs in the 2 Casinos actually go to Singaporeans?
Seriously.

Likely you will find exactly what I just told you.
Singaporeans and PRs.
Always lumped together in terms of stats and numbers.
YES PM Lee Good jobs like Taxi drivers is it?
Oh no!!!
I have been tricked by the PAP!!!
Philipines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said in April last year that RWS will open about 5,000 new jobs for Filipinos. She had sent a delegation to Singapore to explore possible job opportunities for migrant Filipino and they went to discuss available slots for Filipino workers such as workers for hotels, casinos and performers with Tan Hee Teck, CEO of RWS. (read report here)
In fact, the number of foreign workers at RWS is so high that HDB has to allocate two blocks of flats in Toa Payoh to house them.
Unless RWS gives us an exact breakdown of the number of Singapore citizens and foreigners (including PRs) on its payroll, we can never come to a reasonable conclusion if it is providing more jobs to Singaporeans or foreigners.
So who actually checks on the truthfulness of PAP's press statements?
Or we just have to take their word like it is the Gospel Truth?

Chiam and his gang will have to learn Tagalog from their maids.
2 blocks of flats in toa payoh?! Do those 2 blocks happen to lie within the boundaries of potong pasir SMC?
wow...i'm so convinced (claps with back of palms sarcastically)...why would a burglar steal from a house and be so good to clean up the house beautifully after that?
æ»åˆ°ä¸´å¤´è¿˜ä¸悔改, æ»é˜¿æ–—!
How to trust a guy who promise to help the poor all these years through raising all the living cost to fatten his gang of croonies ?
Just a bunch of self-deceiving robbers to tell you to trust them with your money and to support them so that they can rob you for another four years.
What is being published about having foreign talent helping the place and the people and what REALLY happened is for every one to know and painful for those who have experienced the "foreign" flavour.
Are they really the servant ? Servant for who ? For more million salary years ?

Ya, we have foreign TDs to compete with locals.
