SINGAPORE : The
Court of Appeal on Monday dismissed the appeal of convicted drug
trafficker Yong Vui Kong, who is facing the death penalty.
Yong, a 23-year-old Malaysian, was sentenced to the gallows in January 2009 for smuggling 47 grammes of heroin into Singapore.
He had launched a petition calling for a review of the clemency rules concerning the death penalty.
It was turned down last year and he appealed against that decision.
In
delivering the verdict on behalf of a three-judge panel on Monday,
Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong said Yong's appeal was "devoid of merit".
Yong's lawyer M Ravi said he plans to appeal again to the Singapore cabinet to seek for clemency.
