Achieving an Equilibrium in the South China Sea: An Air and Space Perspective

SINGAPORE, Aug. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Recent skirmishes between China, Vietnam and the Philippines have threatened to reignite the long-standing and protracted dispute in the South China Sea. The potentially resource-rich islands in the South China Sea remains a source of friction and instability between the claimant states of the Asia-Pacific region. A peaceful resolution to the South China Sea dispute is imperative for the stability and security of the region.
General Tan Sri Dato' Sri Rodzali bin Daud, Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force, encourages attendance to the forthcoming IQPC Worldwide LIMA'11 Air Chiefs' Conference (7 December 2011) at the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition being held in conjunction with the Royal Malaysian Air Force.This conference promises to provide an alternate platform for the region's air commands to revisit the scenario surrounding the South China Sea, via a constructive dialogue.
Providing an insightful and critical keynote speech at the conference is Dr. Ian Storey, Fellow, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) -- an expert on the South China Sea who has written and spoken extensively on the strategic, security, political and military issues in the region over the last 15 years. Dr. Storey has also worked with the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies, and conducted numerous briefs for high-ranking officials of the U.S PACOM and other various government agencies.
With Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysian Minister for Defence providing the opening address, the LIMA'11 Air Chiefs Conference thus aims to:
- Create a new platform for multilateral channels of communication between the Air Chiefs from all over the world regarding the South China Sea
- Provide a technological and military perspective of the South China Sea
- Gather and engage key decision makers from the various Air Forces via a panel discussion which include the Air Force Chiefs of Singapore and Malaysia
- Present endless networking and business opportunities between government and private industries
This conference synthesises a healthy blend of both military and aerial technological perspectives on the critical issue of security in the South China Sea region, presenting wonderful networking and business opportunities between government and private industries.
