The contest has been a smash hit among Singaporean youth; it generated over 4.5 million page views, 400,000 votes via Facebook 'likes' and 200,000 unique visitors in just seven weeks (October 6 to November 22, 2010). The contest -- where girls, hailing from Singapore to New Zealand and the United States, attempted to beautify themselves through make-up, choice camera angles and bright smiles -- had clearly struck a chord with youths struggling to find an identity and external validation.
The winner of CAMQUEEN OF THE YEAR 2010, Tammy Tay, from Singapore, was unveiled on November 22. According to the judges, Tammy not only exemplifies the confidence of a modern-day woman, she is also street-smart and highly entrepreneurial. As the winner, she will receive a cash prize of SGD 5,000. The entry with the most votes, Catherine Chew Kai Lay, from Malaysia, is the People's Choice and will receive a cash prize of SGD 1,000.
