NUS to Represent Singapore at the International Finals
SINGAPORE, May 19 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- L'Oreal, one of the world's leading cosmetics companies, on May 18 announced Team Modish from the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the winner of the Singapore National Finals of L'Oreal Brandstorm 2010 -- held at Klapsons, The Boutique Hotel.
L'Oreal Brandstorm is a unique annual international competition where over 6,700 tertiary students from 43 countries compete this year for the coveted trophy. The students are challenged to develop a new product line for one of L'Oreal's brands. They also need to propose a fully integrated marketing plan and launch campaign. This requires students to analyse current market conditions - from styling trends to spending habits and product ingredients - in order to identify niche opportunities for their products. Employment offers will be extended to students from winning teams in their home countries.
This year’s competition is focused on the theme of men's grooming for L'Oreal's luxury brand, Diesel. Participants are challenged to revamp the brand to launch a new beauty product range for men outside of the fragrance category and to propose winning concepts that could potentially be developed by L'Oreal.
Caroline Ng, Jonathan Loh and Colin Lim beat 77 other teams from Singapore and will compete against 42 other countries at the International Finals in Paris, France, this June.
Guest-of-honour Mdm Ho Geok Choo, Member of Parliament, West Coast GRC, Advisor, Boon Lay Grassroots Organisation and CEO, Human Capital (Singapore) Pte Ltd presented Team Modish with their award.
Runner-up teams Zalvado from NTU, TLQ from NUS and Maverick from SMU followed closely behind. Winner Team Modish also garnered the People's Choice Award, an online competition open to public to vote for their favourite teams.
Mr. Nicolas Pauthier, Human Resource Director of L'Oreal Singapore & ASEAN said, "I am very excited and proud of the students who presented today. While they are very talented, they made great efforts to understand the challenges our brand managers face and came up with novel, creative ways to make their product a success. Of the 231 participants from Singapore this year, it's my honour to congratulate Team Modish as they work their way to the international finals."
