Our Transport Minister will have a tough time to educate Mr Pool to see the big picture, and will properly let him ROT.
why after 40+ years of ruling singapore, when "we" can made many impossible become possible, you think "we" can't solve Taxi Issue?

You may suggest anything to us, "we" will only look into those that enable us to generate more revenue to boost the GDP, and of course it got to be rational, as the money come from you.

And of course sometimes, the Govt invites and considers feedback from the public.
In short, what we normally will get is the same old thing with a few 'new tweaks or ideas' on improvement. This will go on for a few more years before the same problems crop up and another review is done.
Now you, for better or worse, have come out boldly to suggest that you know how to resolve these issues. Whether it's workable or will meet approval is another thing altogether. But before we jump the gun and say, no way the Govt will agree or perhaps we ourselves might disagree to your ideas, we must at least allow you to put your case and try to offer it to the authorities.
If they say no or whatever, then that's another issue, but first we must try, we shouldn't just dismmiss or expect a negative response from them.
I have actually written to Ministers and some influential people in Govt in order to seek assistance on certain matters for my friends and family. While not all would get the result I wanted, I can safely say that some have resulted in that assistance. At the very least, there is a reply to my correspondence.
Since we rarely or hardly see a taxi driver (s) involved in the decision making, perhaps it's high time, we allow someone (like you) to be part of that process or at the very least, offer your input to the problems and solutions.
I am prepared to draft (eventually write) a letter to LTY in my own name, offering or informing him of your existence, experience and views on this matter. Since you have come out to say you know the ways to fix these problems, then I feel that at least these should be considered fully or offered for consideration, before they are implemented or rejected as the case may be.
Obviously I am aware and I am sure you as well, that there's a high chance it might not even be considered and rejected outright, but we won't know the answer unless we try.
So this question now lies with you, are you prepared to come out in the open (to be named in a letter to the Minister) and offer your views (meet whoever or which ever officer or dept (likely LTA) in person, or in writing (if they want to go that route).
Before sending this letter, I will of course send you a draft for your approval.
What would be your views then to this idea?

joeraj , u have an assignment to get ideas not just from me ,but compilations of ideas from.different angles and personalities .
that will be more ideal .
members actually can ask why this why that ? and we can actually sit down and think constructively those available solutions to curb.

Joe's initiative is commendable indeed. We can see from the news that many are complaining against Taxi Drivers rather than speaking up for them. I would like to add my views on strengthening your proposal. When sending an email, you would expect the authorities to at least give your proposal a thorough thought rather than bouncing the email through a few departments and replying with a diplomatic answer to brush your concerns aside. Always think from the perspective of the stakeholders (government, transport operators, etc) when you present your case. Offer alternatives and basis on why your proposal is feasible or sustainable. Present your case from the pros and cons before making your recommendation. For instance in rental reduction, if you are running a business and someone walks up to you and ask for a discount citing the difficulties in various components, what would your response be? That is an important process to think through because the authorities will need to justify this to the transport providers and ultimately the commuters who might bear the consequences of the rental reduction. Let me explain why the commuters will be affected, a lower rental might lead to lesser cabs plying the road because now they would need to drive less to recover their cost, on the flipside, more taxi drivers might enter the trade due to lower overheads and that might lead to higher availability for taxis. Now you are writing to the authorities which has repeatedly said that they would not regulate prices and leave it to the market forces to decide the pricing mechanism, there are various ways to strengthen your case. Workers Party had proposed on nationalising public transport (which has been gunned down by our transport minister), the way of structuring and presenting the proposal is done quite well, which you can probably take cue from. Even though the proposal was not implemented, it was a good start as both sides had a fair share of deliberating the pros and cons. That proposal would be a good platform to continue the debate should there be a strong demand for nationalising public transport in the future. Similarly, we all hope that Taxi Drivers’ voices will be heard and considered in the email which you will be writing.

dear friends n members. joeraj, poolman n others r not doing this for themselves. They probably will not susceed to improve taxi driving condition. But they r also not paid to do so. Those who can, in a position to improve taxi condition r well paid for the job. But, they r probably the ones who let us rot.

It's owning their own taxis .
Which is coming to an end of an era .
No more yellow top ....
Why ?
Cos of GST collection ? Customers complaint ? People buying taxi for private use ?
Is that the best they can do ?
Stop issuing license ?
And all just have to rent taxis now .....

there is so many policies that need to fine tune in taxi industry ..... one of them ERP issues .
Another issue was the high ERP rate for taxis at certain time of the day that deprive of taxis going into CBD ...... without incurring operation cost . ,
U want pax , inside many ...... long Q inside cbd at 6.30pm , but to pay $3 ?
No lah .......
All because of $3 , inside many pax waiting , outside many taxis waiting .....
It's that the best they can do ?

Allow me to do abit of devil advocating here,
First and foremost, if you have followed our govt policies execution, you would know that you have misintrepreted what the toad minister had been trying to tell all of you.
He is not asking for advices on how to make taxis drivers happier, or how to please the pax or how to make more money for taxis companies which most are GLC linked whereby part of his million dollars paid come from there, if not the bonus alone.
He is simply trying to tell you, he already had a plan in mind to make it happen, just waiting for the right atmosphere and condition to apply and execute it, and when he gives his executive orders down, he will relate back to his initiate point of so call, already told you all few months ago.
Our govt works in a way of pre emptive planning, once agreed, they will work the ground, to test and also start telling you people that they are aware and looking into it serious, once all of us felt the urgency and the coming, they will execute it.
I just give you on key phrase that was delivered many times from govts, from PM to his ministers, "if inner cannot do it, we take it from external" and another stupid phrase from some labour govt "foreigners are here to create job for us".

Chief is only good in his own nest , the forum or LV, where he feels chieftain about it, and once some one put him in the limelight like JR post, his tails will be up his head...
And to be frank, if tomorrow Transport Minister invite him for a talk, he might spent us a steamboat buffet dinner to celebrate with lion and dragon dance

hi joeraj n poolman. Both of u r doing positive thing for the taxi industry. Very nice. Just watch the tv, the reply fm transport minister regarding night time erp. Even nicer. Pay erp up north b4 8pm for a smoother ride home. After 8pm, suffer the jam. Cos u can't pay. This kind of answer broadcast nationwide only mean one thing. The smell of $. Both of u trying to improve things, very difficult la. Certain thing r meant to let it rot. So that $, more $. Can be collected. Sad to say, i starting to c things like this. Maybe I go n find a deeper well.

True. Back during Yellow Top Taxi days, where got so much taxi problems. Only now this charge, that charge, taxi drivers also headache. Leave alone passengers.

All along , i have been wondering why we as TDs are not allowed to own our own cabs and have to be at the mercy of the taxi cos. One lame reason they give for taking back the yellow top licenses was that a larger fleet will have economies of scale and that cabs will be better maintained.
This is really utter BS , look at the SMART crowns , the TC crowns , the beat up silver magentis , do they look even presentable even in exterior? Some of the yellow tops still otr can beat them hands down.
Look at Prime , primarily a leasing and a PI, basically what they do is to turn their unsold parallel imported cars into taxis. They take 5,000 as deposit for them to roll out their fleet , that is using TD's $ to chut chia . whats the difference if we TDs were to come out that $5,000 to come out own cab?
We , TDs can do a better job than them and with our own cab , we will definitely take pride and ownership in what we do.
Now our mindset is taxi co squeeze us , we squeeze commuters , we go where the carrots are , not much compassion in what we do.
Maybe that might change when we are allowed at least a basic right to own our cab.
As for surcharges , lets put it that way , there really needs to be a boundary drawn. Otherwise there will be no end to it.
Implement CBD surcharge at scotts road , balestier and novena pax will cry for cabs.
CBD in sentosa , alexandra , bt merah all die
Where does it all end?
Take away surcharges? u all prepared for tat? i think most TDs will cry with nothing extra below the meter.

well members please take note, this thread as seen in the heading "ideas to improve taxi service. i would expect member to contribute ideas or counter propose ideas if any feel they can make impovement to any idea being contribute over here Do not let go or attack any personal unhappiness you have with anyone or any organisation. you feel present system any part not right or are the cause of poor sevice given , just name them and give suggestion ideas maybe joeraj can do some compile of the ideas without having reading thru non relevant sentences from it.( hope bro joeraj can do this), once this is done, i will see that this is present/submit to the relevant authority through proper channel, it could be joeraj or anyone else this will be an effort from any tds , ex tds , non tds.
