My juniors i taught them my magical tricks , until today still effective ...
" Sorry i very new , just start driving taxi , can u guide me ?"
After a decade , Poolman still use this trick .
Nothing more effective than tat .
" Just drive 2 weeks , still blur ."
Drive after 10 years , i still can make people believe i driving only 2 weeks .
So much better than humtum !
Anyhow humtum must be prepare to get humtum back from pax .
same lor .... if i am pax , i will appreciate that cabby to ask me rather than humtum .
I remember once , that time i stay Petir Road , flag a cab : " Uncle , West Coast recreation Centre "
From Petir Road , he actually wanted to go buy BKE !!!!
I quickly told me go by Cashew Road , Up Bukit Timah , Jln Anak Bukit , Clementi Road .
On the way ..... i ask him after BKE , which way he will go ?
He say BKE > PIE Jurong > Clementi Ave 6 > Commonwealth Ave West .
Walan eh hahahahahahah HUAT LAR !!!!!
Another HUAT ROUTE !!
Classic one , courtesy of kenteolk .
Changi Coast Road to Swiss Club .
kenteolk actually go by ECP > AYE > Clementi Road > Dunearn Road > Swiss Club , hahahahahaha HUAT LAR !!!!
I always disturb kenteolk about this trip .
He buay tahan me ..... Classsic .
Best one .
kenteolk asked me which way i will go ?
Given to me , if ECP .... i will exit KPE into tunnel , exit into PIE Tuas > exit Eng Neo then Bukit Timah .
or
ECP AYE exit Portsdown > Queensway > Farrer Road > Bukit Timah > Swiss Club Road
Can you guys picture the map now ?
rule of thumb.............
n ask..................
Than all this come back to same question again........
Can we just simply depend on GPS?..........
Local knowledge still very important, at least pertaining to taxi driving........

Summon waived .

Comes in handy if pax don't know the route. Also comes in handy for taking calls.
Originally posted by Pntc70:GPS is only for reference. For places that u never heard of and pax also don't know the way. U only need to know where the place is near to then from experience use your own route. Been using GPS since 2nd week after start driving taxi. No problem till now, WHY? I never follow GPS. Only need to know where is the exact location. Not sure, ASK. Sometimes I too lazy to think, I tell pax Sorry, I am not famaliar with that place. Then they will guide u. Till now I still do that, WHY? You can sense from the way your pax act and talk. Whether taiko type or not, u will know. Then there are some who knows only one way to his/her destination. U take another way then to them u are dishonest though shorter route.
i also ask, unless its very direct
Originally posted by Poolman:How come your gps dun show u Tampines Road to TPE ? Never update ? Hahahahah
The best thing u have learnt yesterday .
Forever u will learn that from Kovan to Floral road , u know which route to take .
this is what i had telling u people , kena fucked and learnt.
Gps showed Tampines Road to KPE and then TPE.
He said want to go TPE. My knowledge, TPE is in Sengkang. When I saw KPE on GPS, I scared it would take me a longer route. So I ignored it.
When I passed Tampines road route, pax ask why I never turn. I told him that TPE is in Sengkang. But I can make a U-turn to turn in to Tampines Road. He told me to drive on as it is too far. Told him that U-turn is ahead. Sengkang is too far. He said go your way.
While driving he kept accusing me of being a dishonust taxi driver.
I then told him that this dishonust taxi driver is dropping you off at Seng Kang without collecting a cent.
My advise for Dis-honust Taxi Drivers is to drop passengers off at the nearest Police Station.
I am a dishonest Taxi Driver. All passengers will either be dropped off at their destination or at the nearest Police station if they accuse me of being dishonest.

Correct leh , your GPS is updated , Tampines Road > KPE > TPE .
That's our answers across the board .
Maybe we season liao , once pax say TPE , we will shoot to KPE > TPE .
Nevermind lah , take it as a learning ladder .
A good cabbies is someone that learnt thru mistakes .
The next thing , or the next level one should be improving ...
They shouldn't rely too much GPS for bookings .
If still need a GPS for bookings , dun take booking first , sweep and learn , until master route liao , then take bookings .
That's what we did , isn't it ?
One must adopt a few learning programmes before going all out for booking jobs .
Like find sometimes to learnt about Coronation Road west , or those inside Kampong Chantek or places like inside Eng Neo those Oriole Cresent areas .
Or next phase learnt manually about Eng Kong areas .
Or places in NTU or NUS .
Slowly progress level by level .
I got one LV junior , rely a bit on GPS .
CDG many call dumped at him .... by the time he press on GPS to find out those locations , , call gone liao , hahahahah .
So he took up new tactic by pressing Advance Booking , and i guess beside the $8 rewards , another point was he can slowly find the locations on GPS for the Advance jobs .
Give us any booking throw at us ....
One glance at MDT , in secs finger press minutes liao ..... that fast !!
And no way paxes can accuse me of being dishonest .
Maybe that's why i do get tippings for most of my trips .
Let me share one story .
That was time when i was a CDG cabby .
That time CBD no $3 city surcharge .
We rely just bookings .
So one fine day i got a job at Owen Road .
Pick up the job , proceed to void deck .
Pax on board : " Bukit Batok St 31 ."
Indian lady .
I dun even bother to ask them which route to take .
I just took Owen Road , Keng Lee Road , Bukit Timah Road , old road all the way to Jurong Kechil .
before reaching Bukit Batok , i think she cannot loon liao .
She said ; " Uncle , how do you know i want to go by this route , i dun even say that to you , and i am impressed ! U are the first driver that never asked me which route to take and got the correct route , i am impressed ."
I replied short n sharp : " Standard route "
Inside my heart , the true answer is : " Indian paxes will never chose to go by PIE ! Alwasy Bukit Timah "
If indians give us such compliments , u are one level up liao .
I noobie also press accept first then use gps search... Was along paterson rd sunday morning 3am+ go zouk find paxthen..... Kimsia court.mdt bling..pax name hendry.. Jalan jintan... Never hear v4... Press accept first ... 7 mins... Pick up this thai babe..ask me drive first.. Call ang mo say tired dont feel good want go home... Then pass me phone i speak to ang mo..say Go mohd sultan 7-11 there. He will come. Reach there liao.. Thai babe.. Call ang mo again... Say she dont feel good.. Wanna go back... Tell me uncle can go 202 pasir panjang road... Then say sorry cuz i dont look like uncle... Through the rear view mirror... Haha...
GPS usually works in 2 ways. Those days drive limo - a new BMW somemore with latest GPS.
Realsied it had 2 features, fastest and shortest.
Fastest - expressway
Shortest - by distance, small roads etc.
Of course doesn't always work that way, but usually so.
So use GPS must be aware, over reliance can cause disputes because pvte car, you make mistake, it's your own time, taxi, pax time and he's paying.
Always better to ask, how do you nornally go? Especially for office workers to and from work, they are not used to deviation, taking the same route daily.
So ask the pax, explain you're unsure yourself and give them options. Let them choose the way.
AngMos usually very ok with whatever routes provided you explain to them. Sometimes I joke with those who are friendly, ask them you vote Labour or Conservative (if from UK). If Labour, turn left, Tory - turn right. They are ok.
Only Indian Fts must beware, for me they are last choice anyway. They expect you to know how to go the way they want to go. They think you driver, this your job, not for them to teach you. Only after kena fuck, will they say sorry. Too yaya, ask them to f.o. Sorry I don't know, you get down now and take another cab. Then only they will open their mouths to explain.
