Agree with you here. High rental costs is the main problem. Because of the high rental, some OMO's work 12 hours or more a day, everyday. No off day.
MC useless. because parking charges cost more. Unless Taxi Driver stay Condo with Free Parking.
Why no free parking in HDB for Taxis? Mercedes Taxi and Mercedes car pay same parking rate in HDB carpark. Fair or not?

With the latest rental at $159, TDs' have a choice. Take it or leave it. If they take it, the rental will increase. If no one takes it, the rental will decrease.

Many could to be done to relief the burden of TD.
Taking rental apart, because of the high road risk and medical risk that TD, TD could have enjoy simple benefit as above, like free parking or heavy subsidised parking island wide, no ERP charges at all time.
And because of the way the taxi companies is run and profit being the foremost goal, TD become a making money machine , being sacrifice of all these basic welfare.
And of course, poor service, high accidental rate etc is the outcome of poor TD welfare.
The $15 per mth CPF for example, is a superificial gesture to ensure that the operator's profit is not eroded.

Brother, if you take from the perspective (looking) of a TD like yourself, the interest is alway TD, but however, taxi in singapore works on a four parties relation, meaning, TD, tax companies, govt and paxs.
Of course as a TD, you tends to blame the companies, which is then link to Govt, the usual thing happen to everyone, not just TD, workers as pax also got problem, so if you driving cdg, a govt link company, from the pax perspective, you work for the govt, as simple as that, because to them, you are the frontline infantry, and if got chance, will fark you up.
As said, nobody owe you a living, harsh words, but you have to live with it, security guards got security guards grievances, so are casket drivers, so are TD, and the paxs from all walk of life. You choose your career and what you want to be, there are choices in life, if you think this job cannot fit you, look for other opportunities.
As individual, we are powerless to the group of taxis companies and govt, even association like NTA with a 14k members and still growing are part of their created organisation. The only solution is that if you cannot beat them, join them, or else, form a illegal group and go after them, other than that, like most singaporeans, lan lan wait for the next election.
