i guess it comes as " Good things don't come cheap , cheap things don't come good ."
During the good old days ...... I don't see any Toyota Crown or Nissan Cedric on fire , before .... maybe it covered up a bit here and there ..... again , at least there will be news that one Crown caught fire ..... but no leh .
Why ?
Cos both are fucking Japanese made !!!!
U know something ?
Esp to those Sonata and Chevy drivers .... when dashboard all lighted up..... better stop engine and get tow truck to get the vehicle tow back .
No joke here .
Those 200 Sonatas who caught fire might have seen the warning and ignored it .
They might thought hopefully can reach destination safely for passenger and then get recall tow truck ....
Cannot do that for a Sonata .
2008 , when i first got my brand new sonata from Ubi Komoco .
We were briefed by Hyundai engineers that once we see all lights from dashboard lighted up , a MUST to stop the vehicle .
It is some sort of warning which they do not know what's wrong until fully assessed in workshop .
Using Computerised system check .
Please do not ignore those warnings !!!
I had never encounter such thing before .... but my Bukit Panjang kaki told me that once the dashboard all lighted up , engine like no power due to fuel injection not injecting fuel ,steering became stiff no more power steering .... turbo charge also no more.
That's the indications .
at the first place ..... i thought Sonata and Epica is never going to like work horses .
Unlike those vehicles fromToyota and Nissan , both Crown and Cedric are work horses in our line .
I hope after so much incident happened thru out this few months ....
Taxi companies and LTA , plus car agents , can bring back those more reliable cars from Japan .
Car agents to mark up a little less on car price , LTA adjust the cost of COEs for taxis , taxi companies set the rental according , maintain the average taxi rental for the last 10 years .
And work out a safer environments for both the driver and the commuters .
haha, now i know why smrt come out stupid mdt ytd asking for epica go for preventative maintenance at amk.

I think very long time back, a Crown or Cedric burn with driver inside. Think came out newspaper, driver was sleeping somewhere at Labrador Park with engine running. I remember that time no Sonata yet, so can't really confirm Crown, Cedric or other makes.
