"Sengkang ? I not so well verse , u know the way , right ?"
Hahahah "if not take the taxi behind " .
I let those more well verse drivers take them .
sengkang not so easy to master cause got alot of rds wind here n there,
punggol is easier cause all in grids....... horizontal or vertical rds cut thru
the whole town . u juz need to know punggol field, punggol central
n punggol drive. all the subs rds cut across these 3 rds so if u travel
on any of the 3 rds confirm u will see for example edgefield plains then
frm there u can start to look for the blocks.
becos as a TD i understand.... i have book a cab whenever i need to go home to sk. (when im not driving)
and i only call silvercab or lakeview cos they reveal destinations to td.
can u imagine i kena few times call comfort.. the drivers turn sour after i say go sk. wtf... wanna drive cdg take calls prepare to get sk cck places ma.
i think sengkang main rds like sengkang east rd,east ave and punggol rd is enough, the rest ask paxs to direct!
Pax who are Resident there is ok, it is those who r visiting relatives or friends once a year and they themselves also not so sure, knn, that one seibei cham. However, slowly we learned, taxi driver like me from the west mostly scare of going there, but I told myself, like it or not must go, no go, no learn, go, can learn. So now, I learned
dun like that lei.. most of time i hear td stay in west not familar east. we eastern td also learn tuas, jurong cck bt panjang.
sg is not too big an island to master seriously... since this is our ricebowl.
If u guys prepare to sweep whoever on sight , no one in particular , event u sweep an Ah Neh , be prepare to go Rivervale Cresent , those FT Indians' favourite home ground .
So i interview Ah Neh ..... most likely Sengkang , then take behind taxi .
At Serangoon Plaza or Mustapha Centre , anyhow throw one stone , the Ah Neh who got hit by the stone , u ask him : " Neh , go where ?"
"Sengkang ! " Surely one .
So in the end ... let CDG take them .
Cos they surely call a Comfort .
When they need a cab , i let CDG deal with them .

Kreta Ayer Road, Kreta is car in malay, Ayer is water add together car water. Why car water? check out the wiki explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreta_Ayer_Road
McCallum St is named after Major H.E. McCallum, Colonial engineer in the 1890s.
Ann Siang Hill was the site of the house and estate of Chia Ann Siang (谢安祥; 1832–1892), a wealthy Malacca-born Hokkien Chinese sawmiller.
Telok Ayer St TheMalay name refers to "bay water" because Telok Ayer Street was the coastal road along the bay.
Sago St The street received its name because during the 1840s, there were numerous sago factories on the street. pith of the rumbia palm and made into flour that is used to make cakes
Club Street got its name from the various Chinese clubs sited on this street.
Spring Street The street was once a source of water. Spring Street was opposite the Maxwell Market (now Maxwell Food Centre) and got its name from the spring which fed the well there. In the old days, water was drawn and transported by bullock carts at Spring Street.
Tampines The town is so named because in the 1900s (decade) a large forest of Tampines trees were there
Jalan Kayu means "wooden road" in Malay. One version for the road name's origin is that firewood used to be stacked on the roadside. Another version is that the muddy laterite roads leading to the rubber estates in the area were made passable due to logs of wood that used to cover the muddy roads, hence the term in Malay jalan kayu.
Holland Road and Holland Village were named after an early resident in Singapore, Hugh Holland, who was an architect.
Kallang is an old Malay reference to the orang laut (people of the sea), called orang biduanda kallang, who lived in the vicinity of the Kallang River and Singapore River.
Telok Blangah in (Jawi: تلوق Ø¨Ù„Ú Ù‡) Malay means "cooking pot bay", and covers the area behind Keppel Harbour. Blanga is a cooking potmade of clay used by the southern Indians. The district name is derived from this cooking pot shape of the bay.
10yrs back my friend in LTA already told me, every new road will be english name with little or no historical value, hence Rivervale, Compassvale, etc. Since in Singapore garment own the land no road will be named after a person, unless they in the garment lor... hehehe, lucky my family side still own a piece of land at tanah merah kechil and don't want to give it up..
Is poole rd name after poolman?

If you want to challenge and learn more about sengkang, Q at compass point, sure ask you go rivervale, compassvale, or fernvale..like most heartlanders, most live there, that was also how I learned with fares
compass point is a good place to tikam between 1030am-12noon if u a day driver n not taking those incoming calls in the estate... a few times kena yishun/woodlands/sembawang... mayb i lucky.. just to note... but of cos see ah neh ft with school bag first in Q better run if u dun like changi b pk
hv seen many daring td esp smrts putting change shift woodlands to fish out the northlanders in the hungry Q (after am peak hr).. i guess they wan go smrt HQ... or just gimmick...cos better connections there.

Not only sengkang any housing estate if not familiar and want to learn just go that area shopping mall, especially weekend. Good for learning, but not do good for income ah since only $5-$8 trips only
Like what my hirer said to me... "The road is always there"
I still avoid SK n PGL at all cost... Maybe booking... Booking can get me out of SK...
Somemore non peak hr...
That day after drop pax at jurong pt... Mdtbling.. Jurong west st65... Go
Ica
building... Fare $22... Shiok... The ica PNG sembawang almost $20... Huat ah!

Start by remembering sk is divided into 4 bands: (jln kayu) fernvale, (sungei punggol) anchorvale, (sengkang east road) compassvale (punggol road) & rivervale (sengkang east drive).
Until today, I'm having problems with woodlands: drives, ave, street, ring, crescent, circle??!!
Drives in woodlands
woodlands drive 6X(means u acces from woodlands ave 6)
woodlands drive 7X( means u access from woodlands ave 7)
woodlands drive 1X (means u access from woodlands ave 1)
okay...u can determine which side is woodlands dr 60? 61?
even drive nos on one side, odd ones on the other.
Ring,crescent,circle
Avenues in Woodlands
Woodlands ave 1,3,5,7,9 is the east-west running road .
ave 1 is the one closest to SLE, serves HDB block number 3XX and 4XX
ave 3 is located at western woodlands(marsiling MRT that side), serves blk 1XX and marsiling estate near checkpoint.
ave 3,5,7 think of them as the wings of causeway point ave 3 on the west(marsiling HDBs ,woodlands blk 1XX,3XX,4XX) and ave 5,7 on the east(blk 5XX,6XX,7XX,8XX).
ave 9 runs on RP that side and it serves blk 7XX.
ave 1,3,5,7,9. Just rmb ave 1 is the closest to SLE followed by 3,5,7, then ave 9(RP).
ave 2,4,6,8,10,12 same principle but they are north-south running road.
ave 2 starting from SLE, the ave 4,6 and so on until ave 10,12 which is next door to sembawang.
Enjoy speeding on ave 12 btw..
Streets in Woodlands
eg. Woodlands street 11,12,13. they are called st 1X. street 1X means the first number of the block number they serve...eg. st 1X serves blk 1XX,st 2X serves blk 2XX ,st 3X serves blk 3XX and so on.
AMK,Tampines also same.
CCK dun quite follow the system.
Bedok though have names in street but completely different system esp. in bedok north.
Rings,crescent,circle
woodlands rings serves block 6XX which the area itself is more closer to SLE woodlands ave 12 exit. they are surrounded by woodlands Dr XX which i mentioned eariler on.
woodlands circle serves blk 7XX likewise they are surrounded by woodlands Dr XX.
same for woodlands crescent which is more nearer to sembawang that side.
U all go study the online SG map regularly take note of patterns in the numbering of HDB blocks. Usually the run either clockwise(so far only Yishun having this pattern) or counter-clockwise.
For topic proper, hammer already mention -vale serves what blk numbers.
sengkang east ave is the road parallel to buangkok dr and it's the closest to buangkok drive as well. it mostly serves blk 10X,11X,20X,21X.
Important to take note in SK, the smallest blk numbers located nearer to sengkang east ave, and the largest number(eg.19X,29X) located in their respective crescents near the TPE. Streets and crescents serves the larger block number
again study the online SG map for the numbering patterns for the blocks
In fact , most passenger knew we are no good at Sengkang , so they will tell us turn left turn right go straight instructions .
Kengkia....you forgot....Woodlands if StXX is Marsiling MRT side.....Drive XX ia Admiralty MRT side with Causeway Point Woodlands MRT reference in the middle.....
yup...streets only in western woodlands, and drives only in eastern woodlands with CWP in centre..and also woodlands N8 being served by st XX also.

to me only the part of compassvale area near compass point is confusing still...
