I believe that consumption for newer cab will be lower than older one, cos engine still virgin mah. On the other hand, the efficient and comfortability can be a plus point for it, so, it is up to individual to decide.
Cabs, unlike previously, where you get only crown, today, it is a buffet of them. At $157, it sound reasonably in comparing to our earlier predication of 160++ or even 170++,
Nevertheless, there will be people renting it, get to use to it and drive on with it, just like previously, at $125, most of us renting at $80 less were wondering how on earth was one going to survive with it, but then, peoples like some of us here had drove it or still driving and make a living out of it.
And then, the issue of having the same fare structure might not justify the high rental. It should be abit higher, and I guess, paxs would not mind with better services and comfort provided. On the other hand, increase in fare can also lead to peoples not taking it.
Hahaha.....how come 157 come into picture?
The actual rental for this machine is $159.xx including GST....
Beating Vellfire by a nose dive.....
The only set back from this machine is the meter fare......
CDG refuse to adjust their meter fare, comparing to Blackie and Hellfire......
Without the 0.33 jump, it don't justify the higher rental paid........

Depending on your style of driving, switching from old to new, sees an increase of $15-30 (full/half day) extra in rental give and take. But the fuel consumption could lower it by over $10-20 (full or half day)
But all things remaining equal - for myself I almost always drive the same hours and mileage. 5-7 hours on weekday at around 150-200km, be it Sonata, Crown or Azera.
In fact it was the old Sonata that costs me more compared to the guzzling Azera. Azera I play town or airport most times. Also selective searching of pax more compared to Sonata.
I would have gone on to drive the new Merc in january next year if I remained with Azera hirer as he had applied for it. I did my calculations and could forsee paying an extra $10 -15 day in rental after deducting everything. But for the comfort and smoothness of the drive as I had driven Merc (as pvte Limo), I felt it was risk worth taking. Only I found the hirer unreasonable that's why I switched to a different hirer driving Crown.
Basically I would need to either drive 30 to 45mins extra each day, or come out a little bit earlier and/or find another short distance CBD peak period fare to make up the extra rental.
That is the worse case scenario, if really good, you can get more booking/transfer (new cab sure to be pushed for more jobs) or find good pax or regular to take me more often. No need to sweep and go slog extra hours.
So not impossible - all a question of strategy, experience and of course, luck. No need to work hard but must be smart.
But for me, very idle, only wanna drive from 6.30 to 1am every weekday, sometimes even shorter, therefore the new merc maybe not so good idea. But if I on the ball like I started many years before, then sure can cari makan and I'll deffo give this a try. Worse case cannot, throw key lor.
Same meter fare..
unless u driving longest hr, else is a paid cut...
Oh 159, perhap I alway love to give people a lower image of rent and myself...
As the chinese saying, when the ship reached the wharf, somehow it would automatically align and straighten herself along the bank.
We might said, wow! so high rental, but there will still be people taking it, find reliefs and drive on, and life goes back to the normal again taking 159 as the benchmark, then again, after half decade gone, most cabs would had gone up in rental with newer sonata or kia or cheverolet, and then a newer merc will come into the picture with a 180 rental per day.
The strategy adopted by taxis company to increase rental is therefore a clear cut one, newer taxis, higher rental. That in turn, renew the TD to plough the road longer, work more smarter if not harder for them on a pretext of I am driving a new merc, knn, where on earth as a sex 2 general Woker, can I think of driving a new merc.
And as bro JR put it, drive first, worry later is also good, cannot, then throw back lor, at least you touch and feel it and gain some experiences from it.
no contract?
Think existing driver no contract if drive more then 2 years.
There's 2 kind of drivers getting this new Mercedes.....
1 is those super old birds, driving the old Mercedes since day 1......or semi old birds who take over old Mercedes somewhere in between, these type of drivers bo contract......
2nd type is those newbies, somehow or rather sway sway get old Mercedes and kanna this shit.....if they with CDG for less than a year, got to sign contract.....
On top of that, security deposit got to top up to $2k, meaning additional of $1k.......still reasonable compare to some company $10k.....
Actually, the hardest hit are those newbies, out of sudden paying sky high rental with no lobang....hahaha
Sorry Benz is out of the question ........ for me .

True , but still Taxi Driver.
This is like dangaling a piece of sweet and slowly lure you to come and suck it.
But I have to agree with your 1500 per month for a merc, where to find??
Given a merc cos about 300k today, per year of 1.5k, you get 12mth X 1.5k= 18k per year, and in 10 years, only 180k, still cheaper than buying yourselves...so how?
Some figures to digest.
OMV of this new mercedes is S$40 934...
duty paid = 40 934 x 1.2 x 1.07 = S$ 52559
COE paid = 48 892
total cost = S$142 385 (excluding other handling charges or profit by agent etc etc)
and can get back Parf rebate at end of 8 years = S$ 24256
net cost = S$118129 (exclude interest and other misc charges)..
OMV of old merc (registered in 2006/2007) are around S$47000 to S$50000.

If... he can gets $50 shift but only 8 hours driving.
@ $159 x 365 days x 7 years = $406,245
In 7 years of rental, he can afford to buy.....
2.5 x PH plate Vianos @$160k each.
(this surely got no Taxi sign).

Woei brother
I believe you misunderstood brother decent and me, maybe you are at 98fm, and we are at 93.3fm, what bro decent is trying to prove is that we are willing to forgo $50 per day to drive a new merc, meaning per day, OMO, we drive and make about 109 dollars, the rest 50, we cover and together paid the companies 159.
So everyday, we would have to fork out $50 extra, the pick is, where can you find a new merc renting at 50 dollars per day?
In another words, given a retired person who had rented his house and got monthly few thousands income, together with sons and daughters giving him some allowances, if he is looking to drive a merc, he could take a taxis
He is willing to pay 1500 a month for a new merc to go around, meaning without making any profit and still can give in 50 dollars, just drive a few hours to cover that 109, and he can use it at his own leisure.
