I can't agree with you relying on engine brake alone without stepping hard on yr brakes in an emergency. If you're doing that in a low speed situation it's still relatively safe. anything in excess of 90km/h and if you need to stop in a hurry, engine braking will not be able to bring the car to slow down fast enough. i.e. Car traveling at 100km/h in fifth gear, you can't use second gear as the speed is too high to be able to engage. You will engage third or forth gear but you still need to rely on brakes.
Many a times enthusiast upgrade the engine to gain speed but neglect upgrading of stopping power n handling of car. All three dynamics must be upgraded in unison, ignoring any part of the equation is simply suicidal. You can speed and stop fast but if the car's suspension can't handle, be prepared to hug trees. Since you're driving crown, tell me how is it's suspension like. Very often I see crowns wallowing along bends/corners like a sampan due to its soft suspension, hence I asked if the braking n suspension powerful as well earlier. If a crown execute an emergency braking too fast, its front suspension will dip excessively and weight distribution will be shifted to the front. Leaving the rear end lighter and rear wheels with little traction thus leading to fishtailing effects. You may also experience wheel hop during hard braking which compromise traction and steering control. If it happens on a wet surface, I dun wanna imagine.
Those crowns driving at 130 are really a brave lot.
I'm a super relief, i toggle between mercs, sonatas and crowns
Except being noisy, crowns are fun to drive
yes, most CDG crowns' suspensions CMI, macham like floating
in an emergency, we down shift the crown, only when it slow to a suitable speed
then we dare to tap lightly on the brakes, not that we dun apply brakes
as for sonatas, i always apply this theory too, when doing fast, i always put manual.
when cornering, also can downshift by shifting the gear knob towards you, theres a technic to down shift 2 gears, shall not eleborate too much here ...
as for mers, being heavy, releasing the accelerator is equalvalant to engine braking, very effective, so you seldom see mercs kiss other car's back side
dat day i sat on that transcab crown, the suspension was tight, like hugging the floor so thats why when that uncle did 130 no laksa .... hahaha
PS when travelling fast, crowns and sonatas can manually shift to gear 2, only cannot shift to gear 1

Yes must salute, then honor it with a Singapore Flag, fire 12 rounds into the air, CO hand over flag, then I do the collection.
