But this forum full of Old School Hardcore people. They hate GPS. They love Street Directory.
Must get Traffic Police to make sure they always carry the latest Street Directory with them ALWAYS!!
I use GPS but screen off.. LoL, just see where the location. Newer place if really dunno and GPS also can't find, i use the Singapore Map app by streetdirectory.com.
The other day one Korean girl want to go Happen Inn Hotel i find cannot find, see address at Boat Quay. Wanted to drop her at circular road ask her find, should be around boat quay stretch, she afraid cos she alone in Singapore and her mobile phone also not working cos dropped at swimming pool. Pity her, saturday night at boat quay walk alone also not safe for her. Next day going to fly off already also.
I use GPS key in exact address of the hotel point me to Tew Chew Street, can't be! i find in streetdirectory cant find, she don't have hotel phone number also.
asked other taxi driver also dont know.
One driver came to me at circular road ask me where i want to go since he saw me ask passerby i tell him Happen Inn, show him the address he also don't know.
End up i use Singapore Map app, show the pax. Ask her go and walk there and check to confirm.
She confirm correct then pay and keep thank you thank you so many times... LoL
Would Street Directory have helped you better in your situation? If it would, I will throw away my GPS as suggested by Pool.

I use the street directory app alot before i drive taxi. Very usefull! My GPS app mainly for logging my trips and sometimes i use the voice guidance for those small ulu roads, stream to my bluetooth earpiece with screen off, driving and looking at the GPS screen very dangerous leh. But usually GPS route very messy one, sometimes ask me turn left when i know going straight is a faster option. When the GPS say something like that then i ask pax u want me turn here or go straight.
and also GPS in CBD area usually very screwed up one, cos too many tall buildings too close to each other.
My Taxi meter also have some problem, if the fare disappear when rech destination. i use the app to calculate the taxi fare. The fare inside the app usually shows slightly higher even if u use the route on the app.
Also usefull when pax ask from A to B around how much ah? I use the app show them.
Only bad thing about the app is the maps not stored offline, so must have data connection, u know lah sometimes network slow and some remote places no signal one.
Good thing about the maps not stored offline is it's constantly updated.
I develop iOS (iPhone &iPad) and Android app in my free time, and one of my app uses streetdirectory APIs, to find parking location

You are a road idiot.
I am a road idiot too.
I am a registered road idiot with poolman,

I'm not really road idiot ah, most of the roads I know. As long as it's along some major road. But small roads in private estate off the main roads with weird names that one I blur. But those type of places normally pax also will guide.
Singapore roads actually quite easy, even number avenues always parallel with each other. Like ave 2, 4, 6. Odd parallel with odd, street usually follow block number like street 20+ most likely block 200+. If one side street even numbers ie st22 , opposite side odd number ie st 21 & 23.
Singapore road sign also very clear cut, especially when you enter housing estate. Like in, yishun, shows you the layout of block 100+ where block 300+ where in relation to where you are.
Crescent always semi circular road, ring road always big circle. Loop will always bring you where you started.
Industrial area building odd numbers usually one side even numbers opposite ie jalan Ahmad Ibrahim

Huh? Uncle me also no smartphone or GPS leh, but I know that smarphone maps are free, you can find location easily, and if you need GPS, just on it, if not just off it, it will not take much of your bits, all free, unless you forget to off GPS and let it roam whole month, than maybe have to pay a little bit.
GPS is good in finding a way to your destination from your present location, but it may not be good as a location finder, google map, streedirectory map, one map etc are better in location finding.
As seasoned drivers, all you need is location, once get it, see the road around it, you will be familar and move on, GPS will need to plot the road, it can be a long route, and on the way, you need to listen or look for turn left, turn right 30meter ahead...stress lah
for me i so use to GPS,don't have just don't know how to drve!like the other day GPS spoilt.i close shop early!
No GPS, close shop??? wha lau, brother, very wasted, for most of us only worry engine ki siao, what GPS?? everyday fron day one till now, never even use a GPS or smartphone.

Google map not so good for Singapore. To me Best is the Singapore map app by streetdirectory.com. the GPS app I use on my phone is Sygic Navigator, map are stored on phone, they use Tom Tom map. Internet connection only use for live traffic info and social stuff. Paid app $40+, cheaper than buying a GPS.

Get a Nokia. Nokia has their own maps with voice guidance, all downloadable to your phone. Phones which use Google maps, need internet connection to download maps. You go to the same place ten times, you have to download the same map ten times and pay for data charges.

hello GraduateDriver r u implying me?hello i can drive without GPS also, just that sometimes with the GPS on,passengers gets impress!i know more routes than u!ok!
Best is to ignore the graduatedriver. I think he is a graduate bus driver who failed the taxi course. Still graduate driver right! But I think he is also a char qway teow seller. The way he stir here and there in the forum reminds me of the char qway teow seller near my place.
GraduateDriver! Why the Char Qway Teow seller charge me $1 for extra egg when cost of egg only 30 cents?
