Thanks Brothers/bros/br for all the information provided and from the advices, i think i would be a relief... but from cdg or smrt or whatever company, depends on my luck to find a hirer then... i heard that relief must be steady to bring in the vehicle on time, top up until super full tank and maintain a clean vehicle and i hope that i can find a good hirer also steady 1 and if on my part as a relief, something more which i need to do, please give some advice too.
Anyway thanks for sharing your old bird information and opinion with me, really appreciate it.
PatrickPoh , i am not saying u are not entitle to become a hirer .
But goodwill advice , wait until u finished Primary 3 then say n decide .... now u just finished K2 , not even P1 , so let's get into life in school , then u slowly see what u can do .
Dun shoot yourself to P3 , without bypassing the learning stages .
Yes P1 and P2 is a important learning stage for PSLE .
Sometimes i dislike SMRT cos they just want to lease out their taxis , never think for newbies can tahan or not .
Just push push , hopefully some durian drop .
patrick thats why i suggest newbie go for cdg, bigger fleet means easier to find hirer, hirer and relief alsoneed chemistry one. not just simply give more take less. a couple of weeks can see their true colors alredy so dun be afraid to find another one if not suitable. if got chance i can share more abt my experience, still new bird by the way.
MVP30sg signed up SMRT ..... we always communicate and i advised him to be relief and join CDG because of the place he stay , Boon Lay .
Boon Lay advantage for him , cos BL has got abundance of CDG taxis , due to Tuas connections .
From there , he took my advices and quit SMRT .... now i dun see mvp30sg having problems finding Sonata .
One Sonata hirer even waited for him when he go one month holiday , hahahahah
It's always nice to be Poolman when people come to me for advice and took up my advice , and be happy in life .
That's what it matters , I can't give them money to make people happy , i help them make decisions to be happy .
Life in Singapore can be very unhappy sometimes , why made yourself even more unhappy ?

lol today my sales person from SMRT called me up and asked if i still wanna book the chervolet, i told him that im still deciding and comparing benefits and he told me only left 10 vehicle for 1st week of sept and i would miss the oppotunity if i dun make a decision fast... I told him i still need time and if i miss it this time so be it.
Yes i feel that step by step is also the key to be familar with this trade and im taking the advice not to hurry into OMO and considering all factors before i make a rush decision. Thanks Poolman and everyone for their kind advise

Originally posted by PatrickPoh:Hi all taxi old birds, i am new here and i have just passed my tdvl today awaiting LTA and SMRT to send me my license. I would like to seek come advice here as i had seen alot of kind tips given to new ppl. Currently i have a few option that i need you to advice on
1) Take a new taxi from SMRT driving as an OMO for a daily overhead of near $180-$190/day driving as an OMO for 14 hours/day.
2) Take a new taxi from SMRT driving with a relief driver for a daily overhead of $110-$120/day driving for 12 hours/day.
3) Find a hirer from anywhere in the west to test the market for a daily overhead of $110-$120/day driving for 12 hours/day.
As a newbie here, i would like to ask which option would suit a new TD the best as not to overburden myself and meet the daily overhead and also bring bread to my table. i would also be investing in a good GPS as im only familiar with about 60% of the singapore routes.
Please advice.
PatrickPoh,
Congradulate for passing the TDVL examination. SMRT will call you to collect the licence at Woodlands Depot about 1 week after your examination date.
3 months ago (3rd May) when I passed my exam, I faced the same issue as you are facing now. BTW, I also took the TDVL the course at SMRT. How's Mark?
It really depends on how you cope with it. I can tell you some OMO from my class are doing extremely well, some decided taxi driving is not for them.
If you are energetic, quick thinking, know your routes well and drive with confident, go ahead and be a OMO. You will do well.
Otherwise, be a relief. That's the choice you will hardly go wrong.

Hey MMO69
Thanks and Mark Poon is doing really well as a lecturer and speaker, he is someone i would portray as 'know what he is talking about'. I learnt alot from him for the course but too bad this course module would be changing and Mark would also not be imparting his TDVL lectures.
Currently i would be going on the path of a relief driver like Poolman and the others suggested and might be going to que for a CGD sonata due to the low overhead and better opportunity from that company as i also want to go through the proper experience as the others had mentioned.
Maybe one day i would turn to OMO but not at the current stage.
Thank you for your advice MMO69. Appreciate it.
