SINGAPORE: Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said the number of MediShield policyholders who exceeded the current lifetime limit of S$200,000 has jumped to 43 last year, compared to just 11, in 2010.
In a written reply to Parliament, Mr Gan said the number will continue to increase as policyholders age and accumulate more claims over time.
To provide more
assurance to MediShield members, the government will extend the lifetime
limit from S$200,000 to S$300,000, while the policy year limit will be
raised from S$50,000 to S$70,000.
MediShield's maximum coverage age will also be raised from 85 to 90 years.
Mr
Gan added the government will continue to study options to address
Singaporeans' concerns about health insurance coverage beyond the age of
90.
