  Frankly speaking, I was only expecting a letter of reprimand. Not saying that that would have been enough, of course.

  What I'm saying is that a $3000 fine is pretty tough for a few strong words, in my opinion. Add three months of community service, and it all adds up.

  Not to mention he still has to face his scholarship board.

  While I still think that he should have his scholarship revoked and be deported on the next flight home, this is quite a bit more than a slap on the wrist.

  but many may also deem the institution as being too harsh
  this way, he gets his punishment and the institution gets to show that it's merciful and magnanimous towards 'one of its own' while disciplining him
