The first problem to hit was housing for the influx. No plan was made to house them. So they rent out unsold HDB flats to the construction companies. Until the heartlanders complain. Then the build domitories.
Then the transport system. The transport system, trains and buses, was based on studies of the local population centres and travel pattern. The almost 1 million foreigners were not factored into the calculations. That was a fatal error that caused the system to fail.
When such a large number of people come in in a short space of time, the infrastructure has to be ready.
I'll be the CEO. You be the Minister. Together, Singapore will be the greatest income opportunity.

Some decisons have proven to be unwise. For example, I think that merging SMRT with TIBS was a bad, bad idea. Why? When the MRT broke down in the nineties, both TIBS and SBS rushed to provide bus bridging, because the MRT was under a statutory board, so neither bus corporation had any commercial reason to not help.
But this time, because it was its own problem, SMRT had to bridge the NSL. It apparently didn't have enough buses to do this properly.
SMRT NEVER had enough resources for their buses all along...
ACx
more underground transport should be the next move....

So why the hell did they get into it? Is this why almost all the SMRT buses look like they were last maintained in the days of TIBS?
Why do we need to improve our world class transport system?
It's already one of the best.

kanasai bluff who? kids arh?
look at the street directory and look at the LRT lines for a start. the routes are so simple that i don;t really see a need to pump so much money to build tracks and get LRT trains for that. the direct routes buses can cover already! with adding traoins and tracks to the simple routes, its= adds redundant manpower (most goes to foreigners), costs to maintaining the trains, tracks etc.
if really need to build they rather build a special platform or road cornered off just for buese to use only, like raised express way. in this way the trains breaking down causing major disruption to traffic is almost zero percentage, and no fear of greater damages from terrorist attacks. no traffic lights on these expressways and people can always get to work on time between stops or stations, lower maintainance costs and the transport gahmen can really concentrate on ssomething else

Raymond Lim presided over the largest hikes in all of Singapore's history and oversaw the decay of SMRT.
His 2-term predecessor Yeo Cheow Tong said the future was in trains and not buses, but did NOTHING to expand the rail network. As transport minister, he couldn't even provide a proper single feeder bus for his own estate.
So far, what has Lui Tuck Yew done except cut COEs within 4 months of the election?
YCT's problems were created in part by MBT, who made the decision in 1999 to give NEL to SBST and force Tibs to merge wqith SMRT. Yew Tee is one of the worst areas in terms of public transport coverage. If SBS still in charge of CCK, maybe things will be better.
Didn't Changi Airport extension open during YCT era?

But when NEL break down, SBST has enough doubledecks for rail replacement duty.
the problem with train systems is the more complex system and track maintain, resulting in high costs, advantage being if things run smoothly no traffic lights fast appraoch. buses advantage is lower matainance, disadvanatge is teh congessted highly unpredictable traffic.
merge the 2 systems and offset their own disadavantages. build seprated raised roads for buses only - remove traffic lights and traffic congestion problem - smooth travel froms tation to station or depot to depot since the raised road tracks now is direct, no traffic lights and smoooth, just like mart without the trains, tracks etc.
frequency of buses on these tracks can be increased. please remove the buses with only a few sits and buidl buses with more seats. these rasied road ways can also let our ambulance and emergency vehicles use.

human being under the height of 1.6m should not be allowed to be ministers. lower than sea level the pressure acts more on the brain

Still early.
When space tourism was first mooted, Singapore was already talking about being a space travel hub.
improve what. Brush up and lower the fare of the public transport. TOo high. See SMRT profit and other profits. It is in Million. Always fucking say cost too high. DUn talk to me if your net profit is in Millions. FUCK u. SME also did not reach million. People mayube earn few hundred k per year.
GUys, u agreed with me. Only talk cock to us right.
do we need circle line? i can say nope. the route is too simple, feeder buses can easy operate smoother than the LRT - at a much lower cost.
so easy -

mmm..
talking cock.. cos you dun even understand who funds it... never mind, laymen buey hiao also hard to explain...
If the whole project as like typical SME's upfront investment, SMRT is not making any money...
The only argument for service standard is very simple, they dun need to spend the upfront infrastructure cost, so there's no excuse onto saying to be runned w/ full commerical means i.e. retail space etc... The land isn't theirs.

So fierce.
You wanna improve public tpt? Have a ferry service running between Clarke Quay & Marina bay Sands via Clifford Pier that caters to the general public. EZLink cards should be accepted as a method of payment. it should be modelled on the Transperth ferry between Perth City and South Perth that runs the width of the sWAn River.
The ferry service should not be a novelty item.
It should be reliable, run like clockwork, save time, and be viable for the operators. And not forgetting the government making it difficult for them, competive pricing, safety first, inspections, should not compete with buses or trains, and licence that take years to approve.

Ferry to be introduced to Orchard Road if ponding continues.
simplest way to improve public transport?
make all the ministers and MPs take public transport when they are in office... ALL of them including the PM and the Emeritus zombies or whatever the hell they are...
