to maximise your time you probably should do cities close to one another. sometimes it's not about covering the most countries. cover many cities in 1 or 2 countries also ok.
you planned your route based on map or just simply arrange?

I had to consider a lot of factors, train timings and duration being one of the heaviest.
Also based on map for linear distance(time savings).
