Excerpts from the article :
Singapore Table Tennis Association President Lee Bee Wah yesterday announced that "four bous and four girls - all Singaporeans" have been shortlisted for the Youth Olympic Games(YOG).
Noting that all the table-tennis players fielded at last year's Olympics were foreign-born,she said,"In the past,a lot of them were FTS(products of the Foreign Talent Scheme)."We'd like to give local talent a chance."
The eight who have been shortlisted are : Clarence Chew,13 of the Singapore Sports School(SSP) ; Oscar Chau,12 of Raffles Instituition(RI) : Tay Jit Kiat,13 of SSP ; Kerry Tan,14 of RI ; Isabelle Li,14 of SSP and Mandy Wong,12 ; Lam Teng Si,12 ; Chau Hai Qing,14 all of Raffles Girls School.

Millions of public money are going to be spent on grooming a small, already priviledged ELITE segment of our country AGAIN.This is yet another brilliant example of how Meritocracy works in this country.(For more info, you can check out http://pothepanda.xanga.com/699382121/meritocracy-in-singapore-----a-mythical-illusion/)
As for the rest of us,PoThePanda recommends that we gratefully swallow the bitter medicine, bite the bullet and Let's Move On with our Lesser Mortal life.Be thankful to the Great Leeders, you peasants!Unless of course you want free KOPI...
PoThePanda would like to give credit where credit is due.Let me lead all of us Lesser Mortals together,in offering a round of applause for our dearly beloved PAP gahmen. They have effected Change! They have shifted from Foreign Ah Tiong table-tennis talents to Elite table-tennis talents!
(Don't ask me how this "Change" helps you,because i also don't know...:o)
I hereby declare May 1st 2009 a National Holiday in honour of this momentous Change in our lifes! :D

The fact that she said "We'd
like to give local talent a chance" speaks volumes about why people kpkb in the past (and still do now).
I am proud of this youngster, What to do If u are the coach u must choose your own people this is life.
This is becoming a comedy as well.

So it's because of the change in rules and not because they believe in local talent?
