The taiwan local are very angry about the issue cos the 154th was ya ya over it.
Our country are openly taking other people's champion.
Sun Yan Zi is going to have her concert in Taiwan soon.
I guess she will get special treatment from the angry taiwanese.
I dun blame them cos it will be same reaction if Fandi will to surrender his citizenship to play for other country.

Yah, you are right.
If the situation was reversed and you see our famous local sports people like Jocelyn Yeo, Fandi Ahmad or Grace Young decide to quit Singapore and play for another country, the majority of singaporeans would kick up a storm and the government would probably come out openly to make some noise and label them as "quitters".
Talk about double standards.

The point is to groom our home grown talent into international champion.
Imagine you worked hard to gain a place into the national team.
The next day, you are replaced by a foreigner who is rewarded and paid more than you.
If that is the case, what is the incentive for the local-born players if they can be easily replaced any time ?
Why dun we spend all the money in employing all the foreign army to play for the country ?
Once they get the price money, they can get married and return to their home land.
We will lost the players and the monetary rewards, which are paid with blood and sweat of every singaporeans.
Will we be proud if the medals won through this approach ?
I am not against employing foreign coach to groom our truly national players.
Miss Yip have shown rest of the singaporeans that we can become world champion ourselves.
Why dun we stick to this formula ?

hahaha, yes pool is traditionally considered an Ah Beng game.... If you are old enough, you will remember the days when pool halls were considered "bad society" joints and kept under the watchful eyes of the police.

actually will be happy, cos it'll mean that our sports actually got some standards and our sportsmen are finally "sellable"

At the end of the day, nationality does matter. Charlize is right, if Fandi Ahmad had become Malaysian just because they pay a higher salary than Singapore and offer better prospects, don't u think nationality becomes dirt cheap?
And yeh we should do some scouting in our pool salons.....Singapore got so many ah bengs and ah lians....we cannot find even one world beater among them??!!
