For the past 4-5 years, Roger has been so dominating and invincible in his game. Beginning of this year, he started to show signs that he is vulnerable, lost to some unfancied players, lost on his favourite surface and even lost his no. 1 ranking. Most recently, he lost to G. Simon in the ATP masters cup in Shanghai. I saw that match and can't help thinking that he is past his best and may decide to retire within 1-2 years. I can think of a few likely reasons for his mediocre performance this year:
1. His illness early this year.
2. Too much competitive tennis.
3. He has lost his passion for the game.
4. The competition have read his game and are getting better.
Any others?
Anyway, in my opinion, he is still the greatest player of all time and I admire him for his off-court image too.
its time to retire.
well, firstly we can't deny Nadal stepped up plus other players are doing the same. Look at Simon, Del Petro, Murray, they have all stepped up.
Are there still easy games? Nope.
As for Federer's losing passion, that's a long shot cause I do believe he wants the French Open and regain back the Wimbledon crown.
Given he is using a 90sq racket and everyone seems to throw topspins to his backhand, Federer is facing alot. But given his class and his determination, I do believe he will come back stronger in 09.
