Our Singapore Paralympians have so far brought home 2 bronze medals (Equestrian rider Laurentia Tan), 1 silver medal (50m freestyle final - Yip Pin Xiu), and most recently, Pin Xiu won a GOLD medal in the 50m backstroke finals! However for her gold medal, she will only receive S$100,000, 10% of what an Olympic gold medalist will receive. What more can be done to reward them?
Lets Help to bring recognition to our national pride by signing this online petition!

They are really amazing athletes !
Kudos!
the difference in recognition is because of the different level of the sports, and it' s popularity.
FIFA world cup is immensely popular, well paid and recognized. same cannot be said for female world cup.
we want fairness! they should get $1,000,000.00 for bringing back the gold medal!
the problems with most singaporean they only attracted to negatives. These positive events they don;t talk about. Look at the response in this forums.

The SEA games don't give million dollars for gold. neither would the paralympics.
Here's what our sports authorities think:
1. Paralympians are not normal people and therefore not entitled to the same reward as them.
2. The chances of a Paralympian getting medals at the Paralympics is very good and we can't afford to offer the same amount as what is offered to the Olympians.
3. The chances of the normal athletes (either Singaporean or Chingaporean) getting an individual medal at the Olympics is quite remote, so we can offer big prize money. That way, it appears that we are being generous.
It'll interesting to know what some other countries offer to their Paralympians in comparison to Olympians, for winning medals. Do they also feel their Paralmypians are worth only 10% of their Olympians?

worst ever reasons.
more importantly is their attitude, having overcome the social discrimination and courage to compete at world stage. i think they should be highly accredited as well. yet they get only 10% of the reward given to olympic athletes. it just shows how much our govt appreciates them and which group of athletes the are bias against.
i won't be surprise if behind all these, they prolly just sent them for show only.
Good job for them to bring back medals! We should be proud!
Its better than hiring some FTs to win back medals for us!

hey, you have figures comparing the prize money other country get for paralympics compared to singapore. let's see the number and their percentage than, it will definitely be helpful to this debate.

Monetary awards are deem necessary as u need to spend years to train up. these are time invested that need to be recognized for national Character.
It is considered and entertainment if you sit at home and watch and TV commercial generate advertisement revenue. So they are awarded with sponsorship.
i guess 10% is good enough already.
Why? u ask me.. they could also join the olympics if they want to and compete with the rest...

sponsorship will determine the prize money. para has less sponsorship, so less price money.
wat has $$ gotta do with olympics and sports?!
