Was letting my mind wander on the way to the train station last night and had an epiphany.
On a per capita basis, Australia is first in Olympic medals.
1 | China | 47 | 17 | 24 | 88 |
2 | United States | 31 | 36 | 34 | 101 |
3 | Russia | 18 | 18 | 22 | 58 |
4 | Great Britain | 18 | 13 | 12 | 43 |
5 | Germany | 15 | 9 | 13 | 37 |
6 | Australia | 13 | 14 | 16 | 43 |
Australia has 43 medals.
The US has 101 and China has 88.
Oz's population is 21m, USA's is 300m, and China's 1,300m
Oz got 43, thus USA needs to win 43 x 15 = 645 just to break even with Oz. (300m/21m =15 approx)
China needs to win 43 x 62 = 2,666 medals to equal Australia on a per capita basis.
It also shows how sports mad Australia is. They are as sports focused as Singaporeans are academically focussed.
Ok, epiphany over, back to your regular channel :)
