Would it be an inspiration to our sportsmen in YOG or London 2012 that maybe it is possible after all?
it will only inspire mass import of REJECTS...
Unless there are some pension scheme for the medal winners, the local will be more concerned about their livelihood instead of developing their whole life for a few medals.
I know the medals is for honour, glory and country and blah blah blah.
At the end of the day, we cannot get a job with the medal.
That is the reality of life in the country.
The paper is more important than the medal.
Just look at the only silver olympic medallist for singapore.
Please note that we ALREADY have a SILVER medal in the country before last night.
Did it inspire us to greater heights ???
It have become a nightmare to him since the victory as he was hounded by the media for the past few olympics.
So, the new silver medal will not inspire any one as life will goes on after the olympics.
It will be another replay of the events in the media during the London Olympics.
Nobody offered Mr Tan Howe Liang a trainer's job even though he probably is the only world class athelete we had....
It would inspire more PRCs, African, Indonesian, Filipino and Middle Eastern would be sports immigrants to migrate to Singapore
What is the cost of a Silver Olympic Medal (Team Sport)?
It is S$ 1 million, which means IRAS would have to tax S$14.3 million GST Sales to recover it.
For me Tan Howe Liang is the only singaporean who won the olympics medal for us , he is the only one. The records for me , still stand at 1 olympics silver medal instead of 2. There are a lot of talents in our true blood singaporeans. But they are not giving them the financial and the sports system to nurture them.

Well said... The sports industry is not well developed and as a result talented athletes take up the book instead of developing their athletic abilities. Local sportsmen turning professional are not paid well and it is a deterrent.
Even though athletes are paid so much if they win olympics for Singapore for instance, what happens to those who fail to win? Ours is a society that looks to success and not to those who could have beens.
it only prove that inviting foreign talents is a good policy
speaker's corner...lol
inspire? no
today life goes on as per normal
today, i go learn how to play ping pong
lets tell the younger generation that there are still hopes if they are into sports!
