Hi, i noticed that so far there hasn't been an official thread set up to discuss about the ongoings of the Beijing Olympics (only a few here and there talking about Singapore athletes). Shall we discuss it here?
We're now halfway through day2 of the games... China currently leading the medal tally with 3golds and 1silver, USA 2nd with 2G, 2S, 4B, Korean 3rd with 2G and 1S.
hehehe....

an 18 yr old won korean the first ever olympic gold in swimming. fantastic swim by the youngster!!!
congrats!!!!
the french lost the chance of their lives to win the 4 x 100m freestyle. they were leading one full body length going into the last lap. their best swimmer lost the chnce to win the gold and the world record in the last 5 metres. but great swim by lezak, the last american swimmer!!!
my heart goes out to the russian lady in the weightlifting competition. she was the favorite to win the gold medal. she scored nothing in the snatch category after 3 tries on 107kg. while walking off crying she ran into the wall.
how bad can things go for her....
i hope she picks herself up and try again 4 yrs later in london.
Thanks for sharing all the wonderful stories so far.. and we're only at Day4 of the games!
Medal tally now:
1. China (11, 3, 4)
2. USA (7, 6, 8)
3. Korea (5, 6, 1)
I guess the news for the olympic is all on the little girl that sang "ode to the motherland" during opening ceremony.
The real gal behind the voice was not featured as she have crooked teeth and chubby face.
I hope the committee can give some credit and fairness to this little lady for letting her sing in the closing ceremony.
There was also a piece of news that state the fireworks seen around the bird nest stadium is computed generated and not real.

The fireworks actually took place at the stadium, but what we have seen on TV is a CG version due to risks while filming it live on a helicopter.
And yea, I noticed the girl was mouthing the lyrics and I thought they pre-recorded her voice in case something went wrong during the live performance. It turns out that I'm partially right; heh. It's sad in a way that a 7-year old kid had to be exposed to such "reality" in society at a young age.

this is totally seriously mature decision in super exaggerating
events to make it look "Good" for their leaders or for the world to see.
i was surprise that they go to such extend. Now that it is in the news i am sure it brings "Pride" or it enforce the notion of "Fake"
the aussie won and broke the world record in the women 4 x 200 relay. china finished second ahead of U.S.

badminton quarters now....chongwei (mas) vs kuncuro(ina), i think i got swimming overdose already...can't wait fro track n field to start.
just caught the 100m semis - 2 things stands out
1. usain bolt JOG leisurely to a 9.85s to win the first semi. there are 3 jamaicans in the finals. amazing! (maybe the 3rd jamaican can come to singapore and be our FT. sure asian games gold, and can run the sea games backwards and still win gold and $60k)
2. tyson gay is OUT! i have been rooting for him; guess i will be a neutral spectator later.
finals is at 10.30pm @ channel U. better tune in 5 mins early becos the race is over in slightly over 9sec.

9.69sec! unbelieveable!!!!!!!!
Oh my.. Completely smashed the record and with ease as well..
6 of 8 under 10sec!
9.69 with little to no wind is indeed incredible.
Bolt is UNBELIEVABLE!
Won the competition and beaten the WR with ease.. I loved his reaction when he was about to cross the finish line.
tomolo, everyone go queensway buy puma shoes...
But he was tall, compared to the rest of the competitors. Look at the length of his leg!

indeed, once he built power to his long stride, he is almost unbeateable. he is 6'5".
this kind of timing is mindboggling, kinda makes u wonder, how low will the time go until it is humanly impossible to run the 100m.
what is the human limit?
congra your thread is not closed, even there is similiar thread
called Singapore Olympics Team.

how is it similar?
this one talks about everything under the olympic sun.
the other one talks about singapore olympics only, to be more specific, table tennis.
