i don;t think Jia wei will come closed to any medal as she openly said she don;t like the game in the paper as quote.
"I don't like the game. I just did it when I was younger to condition my body," she said. "Now it is my career and I have to face it."
tao li's time of 57.77 is actually good enough for the world record back in 1999.

Good luck to her for the final.
in sg, you cant play sport as a living. and that is the mentality of all parents too. imagine your child telling you that he/she dun want continue studying after PSLE and wanted to play music, sport after that. as a parent, you definitely against the idea and want your child to continue schooling and get the highest qualification possible. and because of this, some really talented people are never found.

i think this time we will win some medal..
our sportsman are at their home country..
''Tao Li's parents have a tradition: They stay away from meets that their daughter is competing in. This, after a bad loss when her parents were around some years back. -- MARC LIM/THE STRAITS TIMES''
Tao Li's parents, both are swimming coach.
Mum works in a private swimming club in Singapore ,
father in Wuhan,PRC.
following fromStrait Times 11 aug 2008
By Marc Lim, Sports Correspondent |
BEIJING - SHE may have raised her for 18 years. But Li Yan, mother of Singapore's swimming sensation Tao Li, still never fails to be surprised by her only child.
Like when she moved to Singapore, aged 13, not knowing a word of English.
Like when she won the Asian Games gold medal in the 50m butterfly in 2006.
And like yesterday, when she became the first Singaporean swimmer to reach an Olympic swimming final.
Yet, the biggest surprise of all came after her 100m butterfly semi-final.
'She called and I was telling her how proud I was that she had made the final, how proud I was that she broke the Asian record,' said Li Yan, the first person Tao Li called minutes after the race.
'Then she stopped and said, 'Ma, I want the medal'.
'I didn't know what to say at first. Then I told her that she's already surpassed expectations and that she should just go out and swim her best tomorrow.
'But that's Tao Li. She's always been competitive.'
Li Yan recounted a time when her daughter was growing up in Wuhan. There was a local meet that Tao Li was confident of winning. She made sure her parents were present for the event.
But she lost and was so upset that she did not want her parents around for any more meets for fear of 'losing face'.
Tao Li has grown out of that now. But Li Yan, who flew to Beijing from Singapore, where she works as a coach, and Tao Li's father Tao Ran, who came from Wuhan, still keep to the 'tradition'.
They have not seen their daughter since Saturday. As Li Yan put it: 'We don't want to distract her too much.'
But they will be seeing her today, after the race.
Tao Li's coaches feel that a medal is not beyond her. Peter Churchill, her coach at the Singapore Sports School and David Lim, who trains her at Swimfast Aquatic Club, said with the times so close, all eight swimmers stand a chance.
Just over a second separates top qualifier Libby Trickett of Australia (57.05sec) from Brazil's Gabriella Silva (58.39), the last-placed qualifier.
But, having broken two personal bests in two days, would another big swim be too much to ask?
Li Yan could be in for another surprise.''---end of quote
Tao Li just is no.5 at 57.99 sec in Butterfly 100 m FINAL.
What a pity.slower than her best time yesterday of 57.54.
It is ok.Just her first try in the Game.
Already makes history lah.
Well done.

Daily Race Summary - All Classes
whether u like it or not, there is a 37% chance that this flag
will be raised in Beijing today 11 aug 2008.
It's not a 37% chance just because you are in a race.
It's only 37% if all the swimmers there were of equally capable and losing or winning was put down to luck and not ability, which is simply not the case here, the other swimmers were simply much better then her.
In this case, her chances of winning and getting the flag raised, was roughly 0%.
Let me present another probability analysis to you:
whether u like it or not, there is a 100% chance that you will make
another big mistake in your posts, and get totally owned real soon.
Oh wait, it already happened in your LCS thread...
Tao Li din win any medal.
Conclusion: Taxpayers' money wasted.
Another China FT female badminton player lost to a Belrus player in e first round. Conclusion: Taxpayers' money wasted.
Tao Li just another china-import.....not a real singaporean.....singapore does not "really" support sports because look at our education systems, look at our teachers, lectures ...etc....all only know about study hard, get a good job, earn good money, buy good cars, show off and travel then force their kids to study like mad, learn this learn that as if they can do it themselves! eat all the "tonics" then get high blood pressure, etc and die......this is the singapore lifestyle for most of them.
she didnt even get gold but yet so how lian.....look at that face like roti prata so round ...how to swim...
this is a hypothetical question (of cos),
had tao li stayed in china and train under the chinese system, would she had won a medal the other day?
one thing is for sure, by coming to china, she will be (much) richer.

this is really hilarious.....that the noisy chap actually divi up equally tao li's probability of getting a medal. think everyone is a robot.
guess he is a sports armchair critic after all, and a damn lousy one at that.
he might as well say singapore has a 50/50 chance of winning the fifa world cup, becos there are an equal 11 players a side.
i am still launghing, btw.....
