SINGAPORE: The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) on Wednesday launched a new sporting body, the Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC), to champion disability sports in Singapore.
Equivalent to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), the SNPC’s primary role is to act as the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for Singapore.
This means the SNPC will be Singapore’s national representing body to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and other international disability sports affiliates.
A key agenda for the SNPC is to establish close working relationships and affiliations to National Disability Sports Associations.
The Council will lead Singapore’s delegation to the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, held from September 6 to 17.
Singapore will be represented in four sports at the Games, namely Athletics, Equestrian, Sailing and Swimming. — CNA/yb
