Arsenal are rumoured to be planning a move for Tottenham centre back Sebastien Bassong this summer. Arsene Wenger had been linked with a move for the Cameroon international before he made his move from Newcastle United to White Hart Lane and a shortage of defensive options has led the Gunners boss to consider a bid for the 24 year old defender.
Bassong has been a bit part player at Tottenham this season and has spent large chunks of the season warming the bench and Harry Redknapp has opted to use other options at his disposal rather than give the powerfully built centre back a regular run in the team, however he is likely to fight off interest in the Paris born defender.
Wenger is on the look out for centre backs as he looks to strengthen his uncharacteristically leaky defence and has been linked with a number of potential targets from Per Mertesacker to Gary Cahill. The Emirates boss is having to make do with a regular pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou in recent weeks due to injury concerns over Sebastian Squillaci and Thomas Vermaelen.
Bassong arrived at Tottenham in the summer for a fee of £8m in August of 2009 but has made just five Premier League starts this season as he battles with the likes of William Gallas, Michael Dawson, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Younes Kaboul for regular first team football.
The former Metz man is also reportedly an Arsenal supporter somay well be keen on a move across North London if a bid for his services is registered.
