hi thank you for reading this, i have 2 questions
1) if a elavator connected to a line moves at constant velocity and its weight is 300kg, its downward force would be 0N rite? but why would the tensional force be the same the objects weight?
2) how does tensional force work from what i learnt tensional force acts oppositely to the pulling force at both ends of the object. so does a spring balance in the middle experience tensional force too can i have an explaination about tensional force?
thanks for the help
Hi,
I believe you are referring to a mass of 300kg. Weight would then refer to mass x acceleration of gravity.
Constant velocity means acceleration is zero.
Using the fact that T - mg = ma, we have
T - 300x10 = 0, so
T = 3000 N.
Thanks.
