If L1R5 is less than or equal to 10 then go to JC, otherwise go to a poly.

Its a true story.
My friends attained at least 3.7 GPA but got rejected by NUS, NTU and SMU.
Business-related courses.
On the other side of the spectrum I have friends who obtained at least 3.5 and went into NUS,NTU too
Engineering-related.
Just because those taking business related courses are unable to get into uni, doesn't reflect on the whole picture of things.
Local uni dont take go overseas lor.

are you good enough to get 4.0 GPA for 3 years, 6 semesters? that means countless amount of studying, no slacking, and once you slack for 1 semester, you are probably screwed
oh and not to forget you need to excel in your internship as well.
just go the JC WAY!
getting just B+ ( 75- 79) for every subject, gives you a minimum gpa of 3.5. What's so hard scoring 75 overall when labtests etc gives around 15% of the module marks and GP marks give 10%. The semester tests are only 25% for mid sem +35% sem test .. which tabulates to 60%... your mileage will vary from school to school.
Oh btw. Internship or aka your industrial training programme is not counted in your grade point average.. so it makes no difference if you get an A or B

Sad to say not all polys are like that. Some courses' internship be it INTERNAL or EXTERNAL makes a MAJOR difference to your grades.

You already said engineering.... NTU 10% percentile BCC/B 90% percentile AAA/C
If you read TS' original post, economics requires 3.55-3.85 (to be on the safe side, at least 3.85)
so i guess your advice is voided in this thread?

I agree with you that not all polytechnics ARE like that. If you look at it in another way, it also goes to show that NOT all grade their internships either.
Things change, systems change..
Internship is not only about how well you perform in your tasks given by an external / internal firm. It's about your relationships with your fellow co workers and importantly your supervisors and bosses.
I'm not saying that you should meddle in office politics or boot lick your boss.(That's not my point at all.)
I'm saying that if you put in effort in the work that you do (even though it may not be up to scratch) and am willing to learn then overall your grades won't be bad at all.
That's if, if you don't slack, go missing in action, complain , talk bad about your bosses behind their backs (*cough* office politics*), be late all the time, chao keng.
Some bosses are jerks - yes. Yet even jerks understand that their understudies are afterall, still students (learning the trade), not miracle performers.
I'm sure that all polytechnics have put in place measures to prevent employers from ill treating their students - ie having a ITP supervisor to alias with the firm to address issues which might arise during the internship period. I'm also sure that your IMPORTANT internship grades are not decided by one person alone.
Ultimately it boils down to your attitude.

Nope. What I'm saying is that in general, it's a fallacy that getting the grade point average (GPA) scores are hard.
Different schools - let me elaborate about schools - school of business, life sciences etc place their percentages - Heck even different modules have different percentages.
However, they do share similarities - Sem tests and commontests/mid sem tests. These percentages do not differ much or don't differ at all.
Assuming they don't 35+25% = 60%. 40% - presentations/pbl etc.
