Not sure where to post this question, but decided on this forum anyway.. I have accidentally stained my hand with concentrated Potassium permanganate, and i cant wash it off!! Are there any ways i can get rid of it?
Glycerin?
Better don't try that, maybe your hands go up in smoke.
MnO2 can be removed by scrubbing with dilute acids.

holy smoke!! that thing is wicked man!! 1 full bottle of it in the laundry and it goes off XD i saw it in Brainac
How did you get KMnO4 on ur hand de... Should get schs to make all students wear gloves :p
Even if you dun use acids, after washing a few times will slowly be gone also la.

but hydrogen peroxide itself is caustic!!

which is y i edited my ans :p but everything in a sec sch or even jc lab is relatively diluted and not really harmful la

its not a sch or lab accident!! i was handling it at home haha

Why do u have KMnO4 at home in the 1st place?
i think can leh. i have sji friends who told me they stained their white shirt with kmno4 before, just add something for kmno4 to oxidise and the shirt becomes white again. LOL.

Haha y only point out SJI leh. Even though our uniform is white la but not only school white mah.
I just remember in SJI in the old days where we still use the blackboard, we take chalk, dip into KMnO4 then dip into H2O2 quickly. when u break the chalk can see the diff layers due to diff amount of oxidation. Very fun :D

i bought it to use it as a disinfectant=) i could not find the heavily diluted kind i got pure powder form instead.

jesus.. my skin is not a piece of chalk!

No better disinfectant meh? KMnO4 is famous for staining things. You want dilute type, just add more solvent to dissolve the powder lo :p even though i think dilute KMnO4 still stains just as badly

haha, that was what 1st came to mind since it was fun :p I did edit my post what, just that you read it too soon

It is known to be a good disinfectant ma.. it can also used to clean stains ( ironic.. since it is capable of causing nasty stains itself ) I used the heavily diluted kind it din stain at all haha. By the way what kind of solvent u refering to?

For KMnO4 it would be water. If you are buying the 'diluted' kind, it might have been treated with other chemicals as well and may not be just KMnO4 with alot of water though.
There are many other choices of good disinfectants that can be use bah. Most oxidising agents are good stain removers if i didn't remember wrongly.
