Dear students and teachers,
I hope this will help our students to do well.
1. Conjecture or MI involving trigo.
2. Area of region by summing areas of rectangles and find the limit as number of rectangles tends to infinity.
3. Sketch graphs of transformations, including f'(x). Be sure to understand the meanings of increasing/decreasing function and concave up/concave down.
4. Given a problem description, formulate and solve a DE.
5. Evaluate arbitrary vectors, or solve questions with a given diagram.
6. Method of differences involving trigo and deduce an inequality.
7. Rates of change (pure question or combined with DE).
8. Solve a system of equations involving complex numbers.
9. Hypothesis testing involving an unknown (e.g. population mean, significance level, sample size). Explain the meaning of p-value.
10. Probability involving Venn diagrams. Independence of and/or mutually exclusive events.
11. Sketch scatter diagrams or regression lines in relation to r.
12. Equations of tangents/normals (e.g. whether it intersects curve again).
13. Formulate a recurrence relation or find its formula.
14. Sketch the graph of a rational function with unknowns.
15. Geometrical properties involving complex numbers. Loci (involving an arbitrary complex number in a certain quadrant) related to the finding of max/min moduli or intersections.
16. Solve an inequality (perhaps by a graphical approach), followed by a suitable substitution to solve a similar inequality.
17. P&C involving cards, letters.
18. Find volume of region bounded by lines and curves (to be sketched) by substitution or other techniques (e.g. by parts).
19. Solve a system of linear equations.
20. AP/GP question involving patterns.
Thanks!
P.S. This is the second version. I will provide some concrete examples in subsequent posts, so do look out for them! Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
I hate topic spotting, it's better to cover everything.
Hi,
The diligent student is encouraged to try 2009 prelim papers from RJC, PJC, JJC, HCI and YJC. Do practise 2008, 2007 and specimen papers too.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Wen Shih
Hi,
Do share this set of questions with your classmates and try to solve the problems at:

Thanks and jiayou!

Sir, any advices for me for the november maths exams?
Not worried about Calculus for my recent test but algebra was a heartache. Couldn't solve this question until the tutor taught me a secret technique:
A^2=0
Show that (I+2A) is invertible.

Different leh, Mr Wee is my lecturor so cannot compare : D
Besides, if it goes on like this, I will only get A instead of A+ for my algebra :X

That is the point, I study everything I can study liao...
Last four tests only lose 1/2 or 1 mark at most for step-skipping , but this time round got slap with 4 mar deduction even before I get back the test paper, very bu kan nian, cause I haven't played with something like this before.
Edit: calculus is still okay, but algebra 5% fly already, leaving me with no room for error..
Thank you TS!

U the type of ppl most of the students hate. Reminds me of my roommate who came back after exams with black face juz becos his exams can only get 90+ and not 100...
wow.. u guys are really mugging hard eh

Edited: Hmm...better to keep my grades a secret, otherwise it is easy for others to now who I am

Haha, i ask NIE ppl help me check for some1 who did well in his maths lo, all the test lossing juz 0.5 marks etc then 1 test loss 4 marks, enough evidence to pin point u :p
mr wee, u made all those predictions yourself?! lol.
Hi,
Yes. By using the checklists of concepts and skills I have developed, as well as looking at trends present in specimen, 2007 and 2008 papers :)
Thanks. More input is welcomed!

Thanks for the PDF worksheet. The question on MI involving trigo is a good practice qn for me as I have never attempted MI involving trigo before. I believed I have worked out the correct answer. Can I scan the solution here and let u skim through it to see if I have done it correctly? Many thanks once again!
Hi Ipx88,
Good effort! Please share :) Thanks!

this is my soln...i thought it would be very complex, end up its either nt that complex at all or im wrong -.-
Here it is.

Sorry for bad handwriting. Like I said I'm quite unsure if I did it correctly even though I have proven the M.I. Feel free to point out any mistakes or stuff that I overlooked in my wrking as well.
Thanks!
Dear absol and Ipx88,
Great effort! We always go back to basics even though the context of the problem may change :)
Do try the DE question that incorporates rates of change. Jiayou!
