  fill the 5 litre

  pour into the 3 litre.

  3 litre pour away

  left with 2 litre

  transfer this 2 litre into the 3 l;itre.

  fill the 5 litre again

  use this 5 litre, top up the 3 litre (1litre more)

  your 5 litre can now got 4 litre.
