d can be substituded in as 4

d can be subbed in as 4 as for example
(cosine rule) a²=b²+c²-2bc sinA < is an equation or a formula.
So (3d + 5)=cost is also a mini formula by itself and d is said to be the amount of time(hours)
Another EASIER formula as an example
Area of triangle= 1/2 x base x height
a=1/2 x b x h
And you know what does a and b and h stands for. Jus sub in b and h or a and b, you can find a and h respectively.

Sub d = 4Thus;
C= (3[4] + 5) = 12 + 5 = $17

To read more carefully, the cost, C, of renting the bicycle for x hours is given by C = 3d+5. Hence, x is different from d. In fact there shouldnt be two identically named variable. Lousy question. Thus, for x hours rental, it is C=3d+5. So, for 1 hour rental, ofcourse it is (3d+5)/x And stupidly, for 4 hours rental, it is (4(3d+5)/x), and that gives (12d+20)/x instead. Really cant believe these new MOE teachers for setting bad english questions. >_<
