Hi guys, i feel like taking a Bachalor Degree from Kaplan above starhub centre Bachalor degree in Marketing, degree awarded by National University of Ireland, Dublin which is ranked 108 in the world. 20 placing below NTU only. But i am worried its not regconised in Singapore. I am really curious how some ppl or some employers check the market rate for degrees or whether its regconise in singapore or not.
I really don't wish to spent 1 and a half years and 18 K or more on that degree ending up it is not regconised and its just a useless piece of paper.
Go check with PSC.
The word is Recognised.
bdw.
As important as the paper is. Its whether you are able to use the knowledge u acquired from the learning process. You can be a brilliant person in the interview and get the job, but if one lack substance, he will get the love-letter sooner or later.

U may get some luck applying to the private sector.
that is not true. someone got a honour from Uni of LOndon landed herself job in govt co and is doing well. in fact, most MNCs prefer external degree. They like people who can think out of the box

sorry
but its whether the degree is recognised by the home-country and the region's body.
i know of officers who went into govt svc with degrees from MDIS/SIM/PSB and stuff.
Having the paper is 1 thing, Ability to market yourself, is another.
The reults obtained in the degree matters a lot.
Even if you get an external degree from University of London but if you get a first
class honour or a second class upper honour, then you can still get good job offers
from the government and the private sectors.
But if you get only borderline grades, then you will be very jalat and you will have a
hard time to get a job using the degree especially the degree is not recognised by
PSC.

MHA does have officers with SIM and PSB... I'm very positive on that...
However there are some exception... A Degree in Nursing from Philipines is only considered a diploma...
generasl degree like business, psychology, finance is recognised.
But not those engineering , medical, law, accountancy ect. need to be certified in singapore.
reason is that the systems used in that country which u are also studying may be different fromthat of singapore.

they are already in the job who went for part time degree......i think fresh grad may be a problem...
its because these places being govt sectors actually just need a broad based degree....
i think they also hire engineering, psychology, business ect....these places just a cert in degre as long its recognised will do...
There are alot of alternatives after GCEs.
some people would just take a private diploma and go for a degree, in just 3 years.
food for thought =/

there are others who went overseas to spend 60-100k and yet u complain about 18K...
but core, sometimes it's not about acing the interview but whether you get offered one in the first place based on what they see in your cv

Nothing beats studying overseas...

I do agree that if you’re studying full time, it is always best to do it in a proper insitution whether local or overseas rather than attending lessons at private agencies.
Isnt SIM a private agency?
If you study overseas in a university of mediocre standing compared to singapore, you probably did it because you cannot get into local uni.
Because it is more expensive, less recognized, spend time away from home.
Unless you get a scholarship, or the uni is better, than go even though you can qualify for local uni.
Besides, the overseas government just want your money, not your citizenship unless you are from a good enough uni. Not all countries is foreignor friendly like singapore...
