Hi all. The title says it all really. I took combine phy/chem in sec school, but would like to do H2 chemistry in JC. I've spoken to my teacher and learn that the chem syllabus in JC is based on the Pure Chem O lvl syllabus instead of the combine science one. Will it be difficult to catch up? I'm willing to put in the effort so that i'm on the same footing as my Pure Chem classmates, its just that i dont want a case of "have heart no strength".
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Let me put it this way.
'O' Level Combined Science Chemistry is at difficulty level 1.5.
'O' Level Pure Science Chemistry is at difficulty level 2.0.
'A' Level H1 Chemistry is at difficulty level 15.0
'A' Level H2 Chemistry is at difficulty level 15.0
'A' Level H3 Chemistry is at difficulty level 25.0
University Level Chemistry Bachelors is at difficulty level 50+
University Level Chemistry Masters is at difficulty level 250+
University Level Chemistry PhD is at difficulty level 1000+
(H1 & H2 levels are at same difficulty, but H1 syllabus is half the content of H2 syllabus)
So as you can see, there's hardly any difference between taking Combined Science vs Pure Science at 'O' levels, as far as 'A' levels are concerned. So don't worry, go ahead and take Chemistry at H2 level. Seriously.
That's what I'd been through.. And I got my distinction for my A's for Chemistry..
Work hard!!
Should be quite easy to catch up. ;)

CONGRATS!
Do help to be a motivator here :D
tats wat i went thru too...but i didn't gt a distinction...gt a B instead
Thanks guys, so does it mean as long as i work hard i will still be able to do well? If yes then :):).
@ d3sT1nY: Did you to do any reading up on your own before class started? Or were you able to learn on the fly in the classroom as the JC teacher was teaching?

Ok.. I don't understand what it means by "learn on the fly" actually. Haha.
Eh. I didn't read up. I just absorb everything from lectures and tutorials. Like starting from scratch because combined science(chem) is like only opening the door towards chemistry.
Like what UltimaOnline said. Difficulty level 1.5.
And I also didn't take Additional Maths in secondary school due to my school's lousy subject combination.
Then I moved on to Maths in JC which requires me to know differentiation and integration etc. Yup. I also started from scratch.
Too bad I wasn't the studious kind in JC. So my 'A' level result wasn't fantastic. Haha.
What's over is over. Time to move on and not repeat the same mistake.
=D
