This is a question that I would like to ask JC students. Is JC life as horrible as people say? What are the curriculum times and are there classes on Saturdays and Sundays and how free are you on the weekends if there are no classes. Thanks.
Weekends usually no classes
But you will have lots of homework and heavy CCAs to occupy your weekends
Does that mean that you will have no time for yourself during weekends? e.g. shopping, soccer etc...
depends on how you organise your time. I myself juggled 4 CCAs in J1, and 3 in J2 along with 2 academic competitions and 2 CCA competitions.
I play basketball for CCA. weekend go play. Heck, weekday i also go play. didn't get fantastic results, but good enough to get into NUS.
Or you like, you can join 3 or 4 CCA.
why do you guys join so many CCAs? Does it make that much of a difference to be in 3 or 4 CCAs instead of 1?
i was in hockey. train till night when we couldnt see the hockey ball anymore then we stop. reach home at 9pm earliest. tuesdays and thursdays. sat OR sun one friendly hockey match.
was in malay cultural society also. we had a theatre show on... for three nights, stay till 10.30pm.. next day lessons as per normal.
it was hectic. but it was fun.
Join CCAs of my interests mah...
Hi,
Suppose H1 subjects each take 2 hours of curriculum time and H2 subjects each take 4 hours of curriculum time. An average student takes 4 H1 (GP, MT, PW, contrasting) subjects and 3 H2 subjects, so he/she will spend at least 20 hours in school for each week (I have not added in SPA sessions if a student takes Physics/Chemistry/Biology).
Add in another 2 hours for Civics, 3 hours for PE and up to 4 hours (this is a rough guide if a student has to commit 2 hours on 2 days for an easy-going CCA type) for CCA and you'll be in school for close to 30 hours (29 to be exact).
Thus, on average, you'll be in school between 7.30am and 2pm, assuming that your timetable is perfectly compressed with no slots in between. However, with different subj combi being offered, that will not be the case. Also, you need to factor in 10 hours of break time for recess and lunch for 5 days.
FYI, Saturdays may be used for make-up/remedial/revision lessons, CIP-related activities, JC enrichment and student development programmes, up to 12.30pm. I have heard of **JC students training in gymnastics on Sundays in 2008.
Bottomline: Find time to rest, relax and recover even during the free slots. Try not to squander the free time on chatting, blogging, gaming, etc.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Wen Shih
Lots of wild parties and booze.
If you don't see any of this happening, it means you weren't invited.
Thanks Wen Shih. From what Wen Shih has said, it didn't sound too bad from my point of view. I mean if I had interpreted correctly, I would say that I would still have the whole of Saturday and Sunday afternoons for sports or socializing. But that would mean I would have to sacrifice my weekend mornings and nights for homework I guess. But that I'm willing to do. Haha.
