Oh yes I certainly encourage my (tuition) students to have tuition during the holidays!
But ok, (half) kidding aside, whether it's a good idea or not, is mostly dependent on whether you (ie. the student) wants to or not.
If you (the student) are honestly not interested in preparing for next year (eg. Sec 3 /4 / JC1 going onto Sec 4 / JC1 / JC2), then holiday tuition is a waste of time, that won't benefit you.
If you (the student) are genuinely interested in preparing for next year (eg. Sec 3 / 4 / JC1 going onto Sec 4 / JC1 / JC2), then holiday tuition is a sensible use of time, that will benefit you.
Personally though, I think it's far more urgent for JC1-to-JC2 students to do Nov/Dec holiday tuition, rather than Sec2-to-Sec3 or Sec3-to-Sec4 students. The 2 yrs JC1+JC2 syllabus covers much more than twice as much (and much more than twice the difficulty level) as the 2 yrs Sec3+Sec4 syllabus, and time is really valuable. Nov/Dec hols should be used to prepare for JC2.
Especially for Chemistry. Best to use Nov/Dec hols to prepare the students for Organic Chemistry (which most JCs teach in year 2), which is remarkably different from Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, and therefore Nov/Dec is the best time to prepare (eg. Tuition) for Organic Chemistry.
Enjoy your Holidays!
tutors also think of having tuition during holidays
my processer go offline......during holidays
Very much depend on students. (and of course parents)
If students have done well for eoy, then a short break might be great.
for others, i think holidays is a good time to catch up on subjects which you aren't strong in yet. (especially those in critical years for 2009)
I like to study with friends when I'm in school, more motivated rather than study alone, not focussed at times.
anyone got lobang for h1 maths tuition for jc1? my maths is in a terrible state. so are all my subjects actually. have to retake my exams in january next year and if fail need to retain.
where u stay?
To me.... Sec 3 to Sec 4 and JC1 to JC2 transitions are pretty important.
I just revise some of my tuition students' weakest topics over the December holidays. Nothing hardcore or anything.
What I usually do is to give them about one month's break over November to unwind (since their exams usually end in late October). I then restart tuition in December.
The November break also gives me a chance to prepare for my own exams.
tampines
actually i can go back my old tuition teacher who taught me o lvl maths. but i didnt really like him cos his style of teaching is like he want me to ask him anything i dunno. the problem is i dunno what i dunno also. basically my maths sarks
basically, to know what you do not know, you have to be hardworking and do a lot of questions
really a lot a lot
In that area, the best a tuition teacher can do is to provide you with questions. I don't think you want to waste money to let the tuition teacher watch you do the questions right? After that, either you or the tutor will have to find more questions in that area to drill you.
For my style, I would also prefer the students to ask me any questions that they tried and do not know. This is the best and most effective way to learn. But you must have attempted and tried the questions, and outside of tuition hours for the tuition to have the greatest effect.
Anyway, you could visit ExamWorld for some practice for the moment.
i try to do also dunno how to do one. when teacher do in class i know how to do. but after that forget everything then now months later know nothing.
Maths require consistent practice. I ever had a student for C maths who could do everything when I teaching her. She became over confident and stopped tuition about 1.5 months before A levels, and concentrated on her other subjects without touching maths much at all.
Her score dropped from a possible A/B to a C.
In the case of my sis, she practiced very frequently. It helps that the school gave lots of maths questions and tutorials. She got an A for her promos.
Sigh. Most of my friends have amaths background. i dropped amaths o lvls. h1 maths mostly same as amaths i heard.
sent u a pm
