Perhaps this is the first time someone will ever ask an English language-based question here.
Is there such a thing called "lesser than"?
I know of the things that you compare as smaller, weaker, inferior. Such as "lesser beast", "lesser evil", "lesser spell". THESE EXIST.
But how about this:
"I made lesser money than John today".
"I sold lesser fish than Tom today".
"I scored lesser marks than Steve for the test today". THESE DO NOT EXIST IN MY OPINION.
The confusion caused to the lesser underlings of the society by the English language has lead to more incredible individuals succumbing to the pathetic usage of the word "lesser", comparatively using it with "than" as a term called "lesser than".
They themselves are the harbringers of doom and destruction to the English language, as they spread their dreaded influence in between the social fabric to the weak-minded uncorrupted ones, causing them to be plagued with this unfathomable curse. Behind a smart aleck facade.
Ironic, I know. I was trying too hard in the two previous paragraphs :P (I think I did ok)
So, I plead with you guys, is there even a term called "lesser than"? I had always held a strong belief that "lesser than" does not exist. In fact, it should be like this:
"I made less money than John today".
"I sold less fish than Tom today".
"I scored less marks than Steve for the test today".
These should be the right ones.
Please, bring justice to the English language. I do not wish to see it being tainted any further.
No, I haven't gone mad studying. I am still in my sober mind. Feel free to move this to an appropriate sub-forum, if you wish.
And if you tell me this has been discussed before, I think I have reached the end of my life.

Sadly, I've given up my effort to correct the incorrect usage of 'Lesser' liao. The abundant usage of the term has killed my drive to correct the people using it... : (

We don't have to correct those wicked, lowly, pathetic mongrels! But we don't have to stoop to their level. We must use accurate and proper English.
I shall start a "Put an end to the Lesser-Than!" Campaign sometime. :D

Yeah I realised lots of people like to use "gonna" and "wanna" and such that I am falling into these poisonous clutches too.
