Today on my English paper 1, i do question 4.
Question 4,
Television, newspaper and the internet - which of these do young people prefer as a source of information, and why?
I was very nervous and i think i screw up....
I total wrote 490 words, and only have 3 paragraph.
First paragraph i didn't state my stand, i just write an intro on getting information from television, newspaper and the internet. Around 200 words.
Second paragraph then i state my stand on young people prefer internet.(250 words)
Last paragraph is the conclusion where i repeat my stand again.
After the exam, my friend told me that it is important to make your stand on the first paragraph. and if you didn't do it, the marker will failed you. >.< is it true that i really screw up my paper one?
Also on paper 1 section two, it is about a report to your principal of an outing in singapore. But a few of my friend screw up and wrote about going oversea. So does that mean they will get 0 on it? or the market will just deduct some marks?
Thanks for reading... :(
are u pillow's clone
Don't worry
you won't failed as you've stated your stand. Your friend may fail, but they will not get 0 as the makers have to count in the language as well.
3 paragraph with 490 words is bad. marker will be turned off by wall of text and prolly you will suffer there.
argumentative was never really my cup of tea but yes, it is important to state your stand at the start of the essay before moving on listing the pros of each other mentioned option before going into full detail of the stand you chose
and lastly, outing IN singapore, not out of it, i don't think it will result in a 0, but expect to lose a bit marks there

Not a bit. Thats like near 0 for content.
For your case, you've made your stand so I don't think you'll lose too much marks there. As for your friends, the question said 'a day's outing in Singapore', if they mentioned going overseas AND for a few days then I guess kinda out of point, furthermore unless they can argue well on how going overseas can make their parents feel safe then it will be very costly on their marks.

Even so, its still wrong as it is overseas.
for you, wont fail. you might only have 3 para but the content is the key.
as for your friends, i think the minimum to pass is to meet their requirements. talk about all the points they mentioned plus answer their question.
Hey thanks for all the reply, i know i might lose some marks for the structure. But i hope at least i don't failed my paper one. As for my friend, i can only wish him good luck. Btw i still got another friend that wrote less than 350 words. What's gonna happen to him? D:

Yup true, but there was once for my school's paper I think last year, the question was about "What do you think about single session schools?" but one person answered it as "What do you think about single sex schools?" and she passed 15/30. Not too sure if it's my school or what.. yup. Guess ts's friends have to pray hard it won't pull their entire english grade too low.

Writing less words only disadvantages himself because it means his content may not cover many points, they won't go and count the words and deduct marks, instead it's his content, I think.

He can cheat a little bit by writing (350 words) at the bottom of his compo. If missed by a little bit, its ok. If not, he's screwed.

Erm, the possible reason is that her language is imba, kind of cover up the marks.
One of the complaints was too expensive. if ur friend manage to overcome it, it would be fine. Maybe those $0 deal by our budget airlines are great to be implemented on.
the paper on top write
you are advised to write blahblah and not
you must write blahblah..
but then usually essays less than 350 dont have much content.

Erm. That would increase his content mark, but his content mark will still be a fail grade.
Thanks again for all the reply. :D! i think i feel better now. lol

Lol, don't think about it already, go do your other subjects.
Hope they don't penalise for over writing by 2 times. Because I did just that.

which one? You write 1000 words for compo? :P
u have made the bell curve go down. thanks
no lah joking lah.. relax can pass one.. got oral summore
dont care about wat ur friend say ok
nobody knows the answer.
only the maker know how to grade u.
dont worry, no problem one.
i think u just screwed that paper.
let's see,
1st para: intro. no stand.
2nd para: stand and 1st argument
3rd para: conclusion
so are you saying that you only had 1 argument for the entire essay?
and given that your essay is less than 500 words, i don't think you have made substantial arguments to convince the marker about your stand.
i think you need to have at least 2 arguments to pass. it is a must to show both sides of the argument.
and as for your friend, they will fail. at most some sympathy marks.
cos they are not answering the question at all, and for that, they may as well not do the paper. understanding of the question also accounts for some language marks too
Argumentative? Do you usually choose this type of topics?
Some argumentative includes 2 standing ones and one more 'However..' than a conclusion. Its the skill to ans S.S essay..

I wrote for the question 4, the newspaper blah blah... Did not count la, but I think sure more than 1000. Coz is like 4 full pages (without leave lines) and 6 lines on the 5th page. Think write too much liao. Coz I give my stand on all 3 options but in the end still say internet is my choice.
