I'm about to take my A'lvls later on this month, and i do not have a bright outlook for my A's results. So, my friend advised me to get a private diploma if my results are really that bad, and not retake my A's, because I'm "wasting my time", according to her. I really do not want to get into poly, another 3 years.. I'm mostly interested in taking fashion management, jewellery design, psychology, sociology. Point is, I do not have any relevant knowledge in these areas, i.e, I didn't study art as a subject in both my O's and A's. I'm currently taking the science route which is, econs, biology, chemistry and maths, which is NOT what is required for these courses. Erm, making a long story short, I need a bridging module to get into a degree course. So a couple of burning questions:
1. Is it better to retake A's, or to get a private diploma, which takes around 1 year, and quite alot of money goes into that diploma too.
2. Working part-time and studying, does it mix?
3. Are there any centres for private diplomas for psychology or design and commerce in Singapore? Because I can't seem to find many.
4. Any other options, suggestions? Please speak your mind, because I'm really lost now, comments please.
This is planning for the worst, so, please, do not tell me stuff like, " then, make sure your A's get good results lor, then can go uni le what." Ya well, people have told me that.. Thank you for any comments.
Go to one of the local polys.
You have a better shot in life at least with a poly diploma.
you can still go poly and study mah...
aiya, poly 3 years leh.. I knoe i girl, no army, but 3 years..

not the same.. O lvl i slack like dunno what still score not bad, got me into jc.. jc i slacked, ya now tasting the consequences.. Haiz, poly 3 years.. But thanks for the comment.. :)
i mean when you go out to work right, having a Alvl cert is almost the same as having an Olvl cert, or is it the employer will think hav difference?
A level cert is worthless luh. You get paid around the same as an O Level holder.
sometimes i think whether i should dsa or 'force' my way into jc, but then scared end up like ts. so now i confirm going poly
TS, best solution is definitely SIM for you. And they offer psychology combined with others like math, business etc. You should check it out. SIM is new here so they would accept anyone. XD
I thought there's an age limit to SIM? Oh and, is working and studying at the same time something which u guys would nt recommend?

unless you have a lot of discipline, it's hard
Don't waste 3 years in poly then had to waste money outside lor... basically private dip not really recognise, i think... unless you still continue to get degree and such...
It's damn tough to study after work, really... Experienced it before... You won't have the motivation...
And... At this stage, you seemed to have 2 possible choices which I think is better
1) Do private A levels, then go uni (1 yr + 4 yrs = 5 yrs)
2) Go poly, then if possible go uni (2~3 yrs + 3 yrs = 5~6 years)
I think first choice will have an easier route in uni if you are planning for a degree in the end

I tot with A levels....only 2 years?or is it because U have no relevant subjects?
I suggest U take the poly route....
Time although is a consideration...is not the only consideration. There are employers out there who might employ U with ur private diploma...but at a lower pay scale...ie...higher than O levels...lower than poly diploma....then where does that leave U?Local Uni wouldnt take ur private diploma...so U have to go take degree from overseas uni....after ur degree...same old story....higher than diploma...lower than local uni degree...and the cycle goes on.
Seen that happening in the workforce...still seeing it now....and I expect to see it even more with the recession...
if time is a concern then you better decide on what you want to do in future and work backwards q:
if you intend to take private diploma, i think it would be more prudent to continue and finish the whole program to get a degree instead
private diploma = 8 months
Yep, I think I would want to retake my A lvls. But again, this takes quite abit of discipline, so I'm going to have tuition maybe, so that at least ppl "force" me to work.. Thanks all for the comments :D

if u plan on going to uni, I would say JC path will give you an easier life in uni, having seen pple from both JC and Poly studying in uni
