Just have to understand:
CH4 has 5 atoms. N2 has 2. So the equation looks like this:
2.5N2 + CH4 --> product (since he said same number of atoms)
4/16 x molar volume 24 x 2.5 = 17.5 g

no.of mol of nitrogen gas = ch4
n=1/4
mr of nitrogen = 14

Your mistake is in thinking no. of mol of nitrogen gas = no. of mol of CH4. That's not true. Rather, it should be no. of mol of atoms in x grams of nitrogen gas = no. of mol of atoms in 4 grams of CH4 gas.
(Ok, logging off now. Will try to check forum tmrw morning to see if there are any last min qns.)
