I think that in a diagram like this, you can only ask for either the outer perimeter of the shaded figure or the inner perimeter for the shaded figure.
But dont think you can just ask the perimeter of the figure because this is not a 'simple' figure. (There is a hole in the middle.). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simply_connected

Hi Firepig,
There is nothing wrong with this PSLE Maths question.
It is clearly stated that it requires students to find the perimeter of the shaded figure ie the total length all round the shaded figure ie the circumference of the big circle and the 2 bigger arcs which form half of the circumference of the big circle and the 2 smaller arcs form the circumference of the small circle.
Hence, the perimeter of the shaded figure
= 1.5 x circumference of the big circle + circumference of the small circle.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Regards,
ahm97sic
This year paper every pupil find it hard , including me as a student. I didn't have enough time to tackle the other questions as there was too little time given.

The question and answer you posted is ok, don't see anything wrong. don't think p6 students are idiot, and they can verify the question if they feel the need to.

it's very hard to rank the students in terms of how good they are. the easiest way is to set alot of question, and see who is better by seeing who is able to finish more.
Only the very best students can finish all correctly, but those that did not finish all should be fine too.
Well, I still rmb that year I took my PSLE one of the Maths question was set wrongly. Everybody was awarded marks for that question =X

its about the how many squares in a rectangle?
oh no. i rmb it had sth to do with a farm.. they ask a qn about stuff on a farm. hahha
aiyo. every year also say hard..
Do they announce out if the questions are set wrongly?
finding the inner perimeter of the shaded figure is equivalent to finding the perimeter of the UNshaded figure. Since when perimeter can be split into two?
perimeter still join together, where got break into two lah.

they do... On air... On news...
Is a big thing lah... ... but the probility of such mistake is one in like since psle started... which is more den ten yrs...
de first mistake is my batch... 2 marks awarded to ALL
out of curiosity... ...
to what standard can algerbra be used in PSLE maths?
I think you use particular machanics to solve a distance time question also they have to mark you right. Any mathematically sound solution have to be accepted.
