Presumptuous.
I fail English neber mind...U fail logic.
seriously..
All these suggestions ultimately going to lead you to make a Lan shop
Free some more leh...think of all the overheads like air conditioning, furnishings, rental, utilities, wireless peripherals (unless wireless@sg la)...u wanna provide snacks and drinks..how much u gonna charge them Confirm they will bring their own plain water or smuggle some snacks...
you could have a niche area and charge students for it..
For eg,
If a student wants to study alone, it will be free..
If they want to bring some friends for discussion, then u can charge a "private" area for them ah..charge them by the hour...of coz, have to be comfy ah..like beanbags..sofas..huge table...of course, your area should be quite big and partition it carefully...make use of all the free space..
It's gonna be a huge invesment on your part and maybe it will take a year or so to break even..
bro not trying to say ur plan is bad but im afraid if ur targetted audiences is sec sch lvl.
im afraid it will fail. why?
As a sec sch student point of view, i dont tink anyone would wanna study at such a place. when i saw ur points, immediately i think of group of friends going over there to slack and hang out.
If they really do that, imagine some bad kids would bring cigarettes or beer to drink there, or smoke secretly in the toilet, u might land urself into trouble with the police.
Therefore, if this place is targetted to the tertiary level, things would be different.
just my point of view.
if target at tertiary level, place it somewhere more east, where it is far from most tertiary institutions... no point for students around that area to travel far just to make use of their school's facilities

My house here got 1, they even have tutors to help out for free, but business must be so bad. they converted most of the shop into a lan shop and now it doesn't operate 24hours and the usual ppl there are ah bengs

Bookmarked the site already...will be dropping in once in a while to have a look and see what I can do....contribute questions a bit difficult as my O levels was donkey years ago liao...unless U want tertiary level questions...
some community centres also have study rooms and its free.
But seriously though, i cant stand those air con study room if it is poorly maintained and not cleaned. I would rather go to non air con area to study as the air is more fresh and healthy.

Do you happen to live in Tampines? There's such a place near my house too.

I would like to seek some advice on the setting up of a 24hrs study place which will provide student with the following
- Proper Tables/Chairs
- Lockers
- Proper lighting
- Air Condition
- Toilets
- Vending Machine for drink and food
- Near to the city
- Basic Wireless Internet Access
Will students be interested be paying a fee for such a place
I don't understand why there's a need for people here to throw stones at you, but anyway, here's my piece of opinion:
I for one used to pay like $5-10 per month to access the study room in a CC near my house during the O' levels period. It was the only place where I could sit down and finish hours of TYS questions non-stop. But during that time, I wished there was a much specialized service that would cater to the needs of a student. Let me give you some suggestions for your idea:
Dear LatecomerX thanks for the suggestion it was good, btw can I have the address of the shop that offer the same service, so I can visit them.

It has now become more like a tuition center-cum-LAN shop. Sounds like a bad combination if you ask me. I'll send you the address in PM.
thanks you for the address and this

I only looked at the pics...generally cubicle-based...personally I dont like it cos of the lack of sound-insulation.

It was the only place where I could sit down and finish hours of TYS questions non-stop. But during that time, I wished there was a much specialized service that would cater to the needs of a student. Let me give you some suggestions for your idea:
- Create sound-proof partitions to cater to both single users and group users.
- If you have a section where students can purchase meals and snacks, keep it away from the study area.
- If you're catering to the younger group of students (below tertiary), do away with the wireless internet access.
- Hire tutors to stand by to answer questions from students. Charge a premium to students who use this service.
- Build a mini-library in the study area to provide students their textbooks, TYS, other educational references, or even stationery. That way, students can simply go to your place without bringing anything of their own. Then they would feel that they can study anytime they like.
As you can see, most of the above points are ways to differentitate your service from the competition, which is crucial if you wish to compete with those that already exist and have a userbase. You may wish to consider conducting an official survey as well, to find out if your target audience is in favour of such a service and how much they are willing to fork out for it.You may come up with additional ideas to further improve it, but the most important question that you need to ask yourself is, "Why would a potential customer use my service instead of [McDonald's/public libraries/whatever]?"If you can convince yourself with a perfect answer to that question, I'm sure you'll have no problem getting people to come over to your place, and ultimately making this idea a success. All the best to you!
Just to add on,
Suggest that Nslkc rent the HDB shophouse, the upper level will be the study place and the lower level will cater to students' related services and products.
To supplement the income,
(1) sell school exam papers
(2) provide tutoring services
(3) rent cubicles to tutors to provide tuition services
(4) provide tuition matching services
(5) sell school/JC notes
(6) provide full range of photocopying services, book-binding
(7) engage in the publication of study guides, formula books, revision notes and
even ten years series
(8) other students' related products and services
Thank you for your kind attention.

basically running a tuition center lah?
Hi xXBlack_RebelXx,
It is more than a tuition centre as a tuition centre is empty once the students go home but this tuition centre cum study centre cum shop that caters to students' related products and services will generate more revenue for Nslkc.
Thank you for kind attention.
