hello there! just wondering if you guys know of any courses in local universities which deals with pure biology? i went to check out the websites of the local universities, but most of the biology courses are very related to chemistry. im actually taking h1 chemistry and most of these sci courses requires h2 chemistry if they are linked with chemistry. so yea, just wondering if there's any biology courses in local uni which h1 chem takers are welcomed to take. =)
can lar...just need to pass 'AO' level maths only to get into science course.
And just need 'AO' level biology to get into bio course.
are you sure? all need A levels or H2 science for admission. H1 and AO sciences are useless.

hm but most bio courses are linked with chemistry. bioengineering, for example, requires h2 chem.

some do accept h1 subjects, but must take bridging course lor. the h1 subjects which are accepted are usually biology or physics, rarely chem though.
onigiri,
there is no such thing called pure biology in university as a lot of science theories are interwined. Example, my friend who studies in material engineering also need to know physics and chem. Therefore, it is inevitable that if you want to get into a biology field, you need quite a bit of concept in physics, chem and of course biology. furthermore, you may get to face programming as well; this is what my mechanic engineering friends told me.
So be mentally prepared

i think she's talking about doing a Bachelor of Science for biology, not engineering.

U got me wrong deathmaster.
If she pursue a degree in Bachelor of Science for biology, she will still touch on non-biology related modules like physics and chemistry as they are interwined. Engineering is just an illustration of this fact.
Even me a banking and finance student will need to take accounting module even though it is not my core study.
As an engineering student, I took accounting as well :D
now ppl liu xing double degree already.. cannot afford to do only one now liao.. have to start multitasking le wor..
now ntu engineering also got double degree.. engineering and econs..
single degree one now already starting to eat shit.. next time really eat shit liao..
ya lor...
I damn sian... last time I wanted to take double degree, NUS too inflexible to do so.
When they announced it is possible, I was already in my third year...
lol purpledragon and eagle so interested in double degree ar...
me is a dropout from NTU double degree lor (Business and Computing) cos the amount of work is moronic.
Just imagine clearing 180 AU in 4 years makes me want to cry haha...
not worth the effort bah

I did 183 MCs anyway at NUS mah
My main aim is to learn as many things of interest as possible... It's quite boring to take modules for the sake of scoring.... not interest
cannot say i interested la.. i just tinking next time sure hard to fight with ppl hu got double degree mah..
lol..
my theory in life was to do the minimal but excel in what i do(which i sorta did).. but when i realise the world din work that way, imagine the shock that i got .

oh no. i was thinking of taking bio course because im interested in being a biology teacher in future. so since im taking h1 chem, i guess i can't qualified for any of these bio courses since they are interwined with other science like physics and chem?

for biology in uni, i think you will need both h2 chem and bio. maybe you will get by with only H2 chem. Chem is the most important science subject for admission into any science courses today. O level physics will be considered in some engineering courses i think.
without chemistry, you can at best enter mech/civil engineering, (assuming that you take h2 physic), or the arts courses if you don't have any other science subj.
but H1 science is quite useless in uni admission. it is only used for consideration of contrasting subject score.

bio teacher? try NIE? im not sure about NIE courses though..

well biological science is a field for PhD-to-be (my stereotyping here). If you want to be a teacher for good, then choose NIE. But the bad thing is u only got Biology(Education) degree which only allows u to be a teacher. Therefore, if you want a open door for u to leave education career, get a biological science degree which will allow you to be both a teacher or a biologist.
Btw, dun be too bothered with the PhD thingy, so long u got that bio degree u can choose to work oversea where opportunity is abundant.

Lol eagle, engineer module and business module are totally different thing man. U got tried accounting module before, u should know its kick. However, i suppose ur module is taken in NUS which is sort of inferior to NTU accounting module.

Well purpledragon, just look at successful person out there: Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs, Adam Khoo, ...
The common traits in all these people are not that they are not all academically-smart but they are passionate about the things they do and they are all businessmen.
So want to be rich? Be a businesswoman... even fry been hoon can get u rich.

ya no kick
that's why got A+
but it was basic accounting, that's why no kick

Adam Khoo got first class in uni hor... How can say not academically-smart.
But I got a view that's the same as him... there are definitely strategies to score in Sg exams :D
