Hi all, I see that there are some pros here in this forum.
Recently, my aunt just asked me to be a tutor of my Pri 6 cousin who will be taking a PSLE soon.
However, I have no experience in giving tuition and it's been almost 3 years since I touched math. (Graduated O lvls and now in last year of poly)
Anyone can tell me what to take note of when giving tuition to a Pri 6 kid? I'm only teaching her maths.
Thanks a million for the advises!
just make sure she understands your method
dun teach her too advanced de method
like pythagoras theorem, sin cos tan, which cannot be used in PSLE

it's unlikely that pythagoras' theorem and trigo ratios can be applied in any of the questions :)
go through the stuffs step-by-step and make sure she understands what is going on for every step? just my two cents' worth. =)
PSLE! use graphs, T&E etc.
*faint*
Oh god, just got back from lesson 1.
I must say it's really not easy!!
yup. pri 6 is not easy.
Wish you luck in progressing further in this path :D
Btw, if anyone needs help for O levels or A levels, please help direct them to this free online resource: ExamWorld
:D
haha... I don't dare to teach PSLE... success depends too much on the aptitude of the student being tutored.
i think firstly, is to build your own model skills. it is very essential in PSLE, then followed by the guess and check rule, which i think most of us will have forgotten. then teach your cousin serveral algebra skills, as simple as possible, and know where is the limit of algebra. no complex eqn, and that would be fine.
Try and build on the problem solving skills as it takes up 45%of the entire paper (or 55, i can't rmbr.)
My sis is taking her PSLE and i am taking my o's next yr, so it's like impossible to teach her... haha.. worst still, she FAILED BADLY for her maths, mcq, 15, section b 20+ if i am not mistaken, then section C, problem sum, 8/45 =.=
if u want, i can hand my sis 2 u ^^

no such thing la, noob. As long as you get your students to keep practicing and at the same time, make them think of the solution on their own, their results will improve de. Just dont spoonfeed them!

Yup indeed, maths PSLE is on Monday. I'l trying to get her do as much paper as possible and hoping that the questions which are coming out are repeated! Lol.

gd luck then...
if you wanna save more time... mayb ask her to complete the problems sum oni, and if REALLY REALLY no time, do the [4] and [5] marks qn and ask her to know the juice inside each and every qn and the pattern. that will at let her score the most hardest scores, and sect A and B is just a breeze...
